At a time of growing economic inequality, Millennials are especially falling behind. A recent study by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis found Millennials born in the '80s have a net worth 34% below what was expected. And student debt since 2009 has doubled to $1.4 trillion, contributing to a decline in home ownership among young people, per a Federal Reserve Bank of New York study. For many cash-strapped Millennials in debt, Democratic socialism isn't radical, it's a way to fix a system they believe failed them. And Democratic Socialists of America, an organization Ocasio-Cortez is a member of, lists among its goals things like decreasing the influence of money in politics, and empowering people in the workplace and economy, issues with broad support.

If your not working in this economy you dont want to work mills are to used to being participation trophy winners and hand out royalty
They cant be very well informed either or they would take a lesson from Venezuela and wake the hell up socialism fails every time its FORCED upon its people !
Young people in general are more open to socialism. We were when I was in high school (graduated in 1972).
But then young people mature. Most of ‘em, anyway.
Same here. More lefty but not crazy stupid insane like Maxine “Low IQ” Waters. It’s just a phase to sane people..
Boomers, and a generation later, knew what socialism was. We knew people who had fought in wars against it, we knew about the Berlin wall, the changes in Cuba, the showdown of Tiananmen Square, we were taught real history. These kids are taught either nothing or BS.
As someone who happens to be a Millennial I can honestly say that this article speaks truth.
Although I hear Gen Z is more than likely to be way more conservative than my own generation so there is some hope
Why wouldn’t they like socialism? Fed.gov is massive, is creeping into every facet of life, spends massively, and is in massive debt in our printed, fiat currency. Then you have State governments doing the same
To anyone just looking at the surface, all this would indicate there’s endless cheap money for free housing, free college, free health care, and all the low-IQ immigrants who want to come.
That’s part of the damage done by lowering the import tariffs.
Two many millennials have seen their parents lose their jobs to offshoring, and have to take lower wages or even go on disability just to survive.
We ignored the advice and example of the founding fathers and dropped the tariffs in the 60’s. We’ve lost a ton of industries and jobs as a result.
WELL, NO KIDDING!!!
They’ve been GIVEN EVERYTHING & people constantly
trying to please them since being a little Kid!!!!!
What did we expect???
Churchill had a good statement about that. Unfortunately I’m not sure these Millennials will mature, the way they have been taught they are entitled to everything
They grow up with it. They have no choice as it is the SOP for probably ever school system in the country.
They are taught from a very early age that there is a central authority figure(teacher) that they get everything from.
I can’t speak for folks outside of the Atlanta metro area, but it’s on full display ever July, when it comes times to get school supplies. Go into any Walmart and there are kiosks for all the grades and all the schools in the district. The kiosks have a shopping list of what the kids need to bring to school. The items are purchased by the parents and then when the kid shows up for class, they hand everything over to the teacher. Throughout the year, if they need something they go to the teacher for it, even though their parents paid for it. You can’t even buy the required items and then bring in your own stuff. Everyone has to be the same. If you can’t afford it, you just don’t show up with it, and you rely on those that were able to purchase the items. They are never told, No. Have no respect for authority and are very rarely disciplined, if at all. The parents, no matter how bad their kids are, always blame the teacher and school and try to sue every chance they get.
A couple of years ago, a high schooler got into an physical fight with the school resource officer in a high school in Georgia. The kid, a sophmore, was pulled off the officer by staff. He was given a couple of days of, in school suspension. Not even charges for fighting the SRO.
Same here, we're the same age. It's easy to be a socialist, it requires no critical thinking whatsoever.
I grew up fast after I graduated from college. Went straight into the Army. About eight months removed from college, I was a platoon leader for two platoons in Germany: 8 missile systems and about 40 men were my responsibility.
A few years later, I was an advocate for Ronald Reagan against my German neighbors...they were sure RR would start WWIII. I enjoyed myself immensely, displaying my command of world, American, and military history...entirely in German. Unfortunately, I've forgotten at least 90% of the German I learned over there.
Socialism failed them, so more socialism? Communism?
The decline is in large measure a result of the long range effects of Leftist policy, both on motivation, loss of market freedom & not merit based immigration. Basically, a reversal of what once worked so well, particularly during the Obama nightmare.
The US education system is run by the morally and intellectually vacuous, and many of their students are too stupid to think for themselves.
She dropped out at 16, and married her boyfriend at 18. She's only worked for two weeks in her life ("They, like, kept telling me what to do. F-- that!"), and her husband has a similar aversion to earning a living.
Her stated life goal is to go on government benefits for the rest of her life while getting spending money by begging with a sign at a street intersection.
That’s because they know nothing and have never lived under socialism. I recommend they spend a month in Venezuela.
Substitue “ignorant people” for “millenials”, and it’s a truism.
They were brainwashed in public schools to believe in socialism. It takes a village you know.
The generation has been raised with the "everybody gets trophy" philosophy. Equality of result is seen as good. Striving to win creates inequality in results thus is unfair.
For the most part, the generation and their parents and grandparents have never experienced true economic hardship. There have been recessions, but Uncle Sam has always been their to provide relief.
Indeed socialism is best. The needs of the many outweigh the needs of an individual. /s
Most Millennials had life handed to them on a platter by parents who were hard working.
One of my close friends is destroying her son’s future by doing the Helicopter Mom with him constantly.
He doesn’t get his way...starts crying until he does.
