The idea was once relegated to the far-left. But the liberal push to abolish the federal agency that enforces federal immigration laws is going mainstream in the Democratic Party, with New York Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Mayor Bill de Blasio adding their support to the cause in the last 24 hours.
"I believe that [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] has become a deportation force … and that's why I believe you should get rid of it, start over, reimagine it and build something that actually works," Gillibrand said in a CNN interview Thursday night.
“We should abolish ICE,” de Blasio said Friday morning on WNYC radio.
Gillibrand's endorsement is notable as she's the first sitting senator to back the 'abolish ICE' push -- and is considered a potential 2020 presidential contender.
They join numerous other Democratic candidates, House members, liberal commentators and writers who have fought back against the Trump administration's immigration policies by calling to gut ICE -- which identifies, arrests and deports illegal immigrants inside the United States.
The growing influence behind the push was underscored earlier this week with liberal primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's shocking victory over Rep. Joseph Crowley, D-N.Y., a member of party leadership.
Ocasio-Cortez emphasized her support for abolishing ICE during the campaign, and even protested outside an ICE center in Texas.

Exactly. Keep it up leftists. Without borders you don’t have a country. If they think this is a winning strategy, please, no one tell them that 70+% of Americans, regardless of political affiliation, want stronger borders. The more independents and patriotic Democrats (yes, there are some left) they lose the better. Either they won’t vote or will switch over. Leftism, the gift that keeps on giving. Kind of like herpes ;-).
I called Gillibrand’s Washington office since she’s one my inept Senators. I told the intern that the Senator needs to remember that she represents other parts of the State besides Long Island, Hudson, Buffalo, Albany, etc., and that before she makes any plans to abolish the existing ICE agency, she should ask the people in this State their opinion on the issue. I asked the intern why the Senator had no problem when Obama enforced the same law and separated families, and put them in cages. After all, the existing law was signed by Bill Clinton in 1997. Now all of a sudden she’s having a problem with it because President Trump is enforcing the same law. I told her you can’t arbitrarily decide what laws you will or won’t enforce, despite the fact that Obama did it all the time, and Gillibrand didn’t seem to mind it then. I ended by telling her that if she thinks that ICE needs to be “re-structured” as the intern claimed, then she needs to do plenty of research on the matter, explain in detail why it’s needed, and how it should be done, and then present it to all the people of New York State before introducing any legislation on it. But we all know she doesn’t really want the people of New York State to know the details of her plans, or be involved, because she knows that she’d never be able to sell it to them.
I’ll make a deal:
Abolish Dept of Ed, Dept of Energy, and Dept of Commerce and we’ll think about it.

The IRS and Department of Education would get more votes for abolition in the U.S. Congress today than ICE.
This is a fringe position that only Democrats in the bluest of states/districts will take.

With this strategy, Trump will be re-elected in 2020 in a landslide (possibly even winning VA, ME, CO and MN this time). More near-term, the Demonrats may be relegated to even more of a regional/big-city party than they are now. Please, please keep it up, commies!

I suggest we ban the political party which started the civil war, passed Jim Crow, poll taxes, grandfather and sundown laws, created THE KKK as a weapon of political terror, filibustered the Civil Rights Act, have encouraged the invasion of the United States by illiterate and unskilled migrants, giving aid and comfort to pretty much every dictator of the last 50 years, etc.
The time has come to ban the racist, misogynist, anit-America Democrat Party.
And the TSA.
Abolish ICE or ICE functions? Before ICE, pre 2001; the functions were performed under other departments.
If they simply say abolish ICE, they will lose as open borders is appealing only to a minority.
#walkaway (from Democrat Party) will only intensify.
Let them run with this and lose.
Notice they don’t say “reform ICE” or “fix ICE”. They want to abolish it completely. Most people know that no borders means no country so it should be easy to convince people that the RAT party wants to destroy America.
I disagree - you don’t even need a reason to abolish the TSA - it serves only to oppress.
