Rock and soul music diva Tina Turner, who’s lived in Switzerland for nearly two decades, is giving up her US citizenship, the Washington Post reported Wednesday.
Citing a report from the US embassy in Bern, it said Turner, 73, signed a statement to relinquish her US citizenship at the embassy in October.
She married German record producer Erwin Bach in July, three months after taking Swiss citizenship.
Turner topped the charts in the 1960s with then-husband Ike Turner with hits like “River Deep, Mountain High,” before a successful run as a solo artist that included “Private Dancer” in 1984.
Quoting a “knowledgeable source,” the Post said relinquishment is simpler than renouncing US citizenship – and entails no tax or other penalties.
The United States is one of the few countries that requires its citizens who live permanently abroad to declare and pay income tax.
Obama would be devastated by this news, if he liked women.
Uh, she lives in Switzerland. It is a nation that requires homeowners to own guns and know how to use them.
How can you possibly deduce that from "God bless him and his supporters"?
The fact that he discovered her should excuse him from physically beating her, mentally abusing her and the children and basically treating her like a slave. Oh. Kay.

By interpreting it as sarcasm, meaning that her decision to give up citizenship was made easier by the fact that Trump became president. If you read more comments I think the conclusion is that the whole story is nonsense anyway.

Saw her perform at a bar in Manhattan Beach, CA late 60’s. She was great!
The amazing thing about seeing her then was that it was all new, and very surprising. No one told us we would be absolutely blown away by her talent, originality and presence. You felt like you discovered someone. By the time Mick and David worked with her, she was already a known quantity to audiences. Of course she more than delivered.

Sure Ike discovered her. Her audience is white. A need to show we’re not racist. But then she has that crossover appeal. Her success puts black men like Ike in their place, leaving them behind. To say that he got a bad rap would acknowledge their contribution believe it or not. W should have let Ike perform at the WH before he died. It would have been in deference to ALL black men.
