He decided that religion was illogical, and when he joined the Marines, under "religion" he wrote "none". He was infected with malaria during the battle of Guadalcanal, and was not expected to live, but he told the nursing staff, "I'm not going anyplace." He has said that this is when he returned to the Catholic faith, as he prayed to survive. Yeary remained too ill to return to fighting before the end of the war.

The funny thing is that he was basically an American spoof of James Bond, but conceivably could have thrashed Sean Connery or Roger Moore.
Anyone know when the Mets really first won a doubleheader?
Toto’s “99” always made me think of Barbara Feldon, too!
IMO it’s tragic that Barbara Feldon never married and later wrote a book about the joys of living alone.
Don Adams was an extremely funny guy and a pal of Don Rickles but I now admire him even more for having been a combat Marine.
They’re making Heaven rock with laughter even as we speak.
And Don was really, really good at it!
I love it. It makes me mad that the guy who wrote it hates it and refuses to perform it now. The instrumental outro is pure magic to my ears.
Went to Junior High with his daughter, Cecily. We called her Cec. She died of lung cancer some years ago. Didn’t smoke. Go figure. Nice girl.

And then there was Emma Peel
Seems to me there were a lot of sexy, yet classy, women before the rise of modern feminism.
I know a little of how you feel. After growing up near Arab, AL, I miss NE Alabama all the way from Ohio.
You would never guess from his offbeat TV persona that his real-life story would be so compelling.
Combat was a must but the thread seemed to be comedy
so I left it out. I think Combat competed w/Red Skelton
or some variety show so the living room was a combat
zone between my brother and me and our two older sisters.
Our dad was a WWII combat wounded paratrooper who
loved good (and bad) war movies so when he was at home
the boys won the war over the black & white TV.
Thanks for reminding me of a simpler time.
Was there also a show called the Gallant Men or
was that a movie? Also. 12 o’clock High & Rat Patrol.
