Let's not put the cart before the horse...
First, you need to teach basic Math well. It's useless to learn finance without basic math skills.
Financial responsibility is opposite the Marxist narrative.
In the Marxist narrative, you are not responsible for your economic position. Society is.
Might be cause they are too busy teaching boys how to become girls or the virtues of homosexuality.
In many schools, it is. I think it goes in one ear and out the other. And in many families, money is a taboo subject, so it isn’t re-enforced by parents. Or worse, the parents contradict or push back on the lessons of what’s taught by the schools.
True - they don’t even teach basic math skills.
These are the people who run huge deficits, spend on the most ridiculous programs and are at the mercy of thug unions. They are the LAST people to teach anyone on personal finance.
Teaching personal finance, doesn’t that fall dangerously close to teaching personal responsibility and that is against all SJW beliefs?
I found that few of my coworkers in an engineering company had a clue about retirement planning or how to save. I knew many getting close to retirement age that had not started saving yet. The company had a generous matching plan for 401K saving, but many did not choose to participate.
Too busy indoctrinating kids with environmental stuff. PC stuff, diversity, hate for Conservative principals, anti 2nd amendment etc.
It is.. give all your money to the government and they’ll take care of everything.
Might get in the way of being taught that you’re a racis, gender equality acceptance, pro/baby killing acceptance, uh, I mean tissue mass removal, no one is “illegal”, guns are for military use only and hunting of course....... And. You won’t be needing to worry about money, the govt will hold on to it for you.
Neither is logic taught. But they can put a condom on a banana like no one’s business.
Still no answer.
When the “unwashed masses” become financially free and no longer in debt, they are harder to control. Uncontrolled “unwashed masses” present a very clear and present danger to the UniParty. Keeping em ignorant and in debt forces them to work to pay the bills, which, in turn, keeps em paying all those nice taxes. They are nothing more than UniParty milk cows. Becoming financially free is a threat to the “milk flow”.
A grasp of personal responsibility is not what makes Liberal thinkers or Liberal voters.
Liberals want everyone standing around with a needle in their arm called, ‘The US Government”
BTW-They took ‘home ec’ or ‘gen health’ out of the curriculum and kids come out of school with NO idea about proper nutrition.
So true. I have often wondered the same thing. But, the public schools will never teach anything that fosters personal responsibility and independence.
Because they want the kids to grow up into financially ignorant adults.
They also don’t teach other important life skills or character either.
By design.
“Why Isn’t Personal Finance Taught in the Public School System?”
Democrat teachers are too stupid and ignorant themselves much less be able to teach it.
Every product in America comes with labeling and notifications on the intended usage of the product, warnings on dangers, etc.
We were encouraged to find something sold that had no instructions, which merited serious discussion, nothing really applied on the next class meeting.
Our professor then produced a single item made by the USG that did not have instructions, and behold it was the US Dollar and currency. There are no instructions on how to use money, because as he put, everyone wants it, they want your money.
To save a dollar you must save it every day, and to save more than a dollar you must save those dollars every day - but the message from the world is to take that dollar from you either by necessity or by desire/wants.
It was in 1984-5-6 that the first IRA's were started by Americans. The arguments on both left and right were about investments, and for the left they stated over and over you could lose your money, and privately they knew Americans saving money would errode their welfare state.
Is the government in a position to teach financial responsibility?
My niece had such a class in high school 2016, she had to do a budget.
Such ideas/programming disappeared when they took out home economics and basic accounting classes.
At my school (in Georgia), economics is the required senior level social studies. Personal Finance is an elective. Even though the economics course has about 20% of the curriculum devoted to personal finance, this is not enough. I’ve suggested (to the county office) that they switch the classes, making personal finance mandatory with economics being a social studies elective for college. So far, no takers.
