Country Time Lemonade to help pay fines, permit fees for kids' lemonade stands

DENVER – Country Time Lemonade is launching a new initiative to help kids’ lemonade stands that land in hot water over permitting issues.

Just last week in Denver, someone called the police on a lemonade stand run by boys who were trying to raise money for charity. Police shut the stand down, saying the boys didn’t have the necessary permit.

The city later said the boys didn’t need a permit, but not before the story captured the attention of people nationwide, including Country Time.

In response, the company is launching “Legal-Ade,” a team of people who will help lemonade stands deal with permit issues. If a child gets fined for running a lemonade stand, Legal-Ade will reimburse the cost of the fine or permit up to $300.

A genius marketing ploy that aligns them perfectly with American values. Leave the little entrepreneurs alone. And a lot of them will be brand loyal for life.

That’s nice for the kids and their parents, but I don’t think the publicity is enough to shame any Code Compliance Unit to change its behavior. They write the ticket, the ticket gets paid, another day another dollar.

This is a great example (along with civil asset “forfeiture”) of an issue that is long overdue for improvement, and would have overwhelmingly bipartisan support in any jurisdiction. That’s where the efforts should be directed.

I’m disgusted by the meddlers who call the police to complain about the neighborhood kids’ lemonade stand. I’m equally disgusted by police/officials who respond to those calls instead of telling the busybody to grow up and get a life. I’m sure Country Time is getting involved mostly for the free advertising, and I approve.

Apparently, it was some vendors at a nearby “arts festival”, who said the kids were undercutting them. Leftists gonna Left, I guess.

Good on them.

I’m sick of all this fascist regulation squelching business as well as learning how it all works.

Good idea. I’m not a lemonade fan but I may just get some packs and encourage my parents to as well. Don’t Know if mom likes lemonade but she usually likes lemon items.

Any cop worth his badge would pull up, walk over to the stand... and buy some lemonade

Agreed. If (1) the table looks reasonably clean, and (2) it looks like the kids did most of the work, I will always buy. I don’t care if I already have a drink in my car, I’ll get some lemonade.
