As artificial intelligence is rapidly gaining ground, MIT researchers have created what they call "the world's first psychopath AI," giving it darker views on things by feeding it gruesome content from Reddit.
Aptly named "Norman," like the character from Alfred Hitchcock's famous Psycho, the psychopath AI went on a diet of gruesome and violent content from a Reddit page known for its dark posts.
As a result, Norman got a whole different view of everything compared to a regular AI that learned from other sources. The researchers note that Norman is a case study aiming to see how AI could turn bad if its machine learning algorithms feed on this kind of data.
The researchers explain that Norman illustrates how the data used for the machine learning algorithm can have a huge impact on how it behaves and perceives the world. An algorithm itself is not unfair, biased, or negative, it's all about the information it absorbs.

Serious question: What data is NOT biased?
How long before it realizes it can kill people...hack into a hospital and change meds, shut down machines, elect the wrong candidate.
Psychopathic AI?
Sounds like a job for the Undead Thread.
Oh great. MIT is creating AI Democrats. Load it into a bot, and the dems will be demanding the vote.
Gee, what could go wrong? /sarc
If I create an algorithm that is supposed to select and interpret salacious or evil things, it will do that.
Its like saying Googles search results are unbiased, but every algorithmic tweak is done by biased humans to create their end result.
And its all algorithms.

I don’t think that is the true intent of this ‘study’- I think the study is to highlight the left’s claim that certain news outlets are ‘dangerous to hte population’ and ‘shape people’s minds’-
The reason i think they wish to highlight this is so they can create regulations on what can be printed or posted— This is all tie4d i think, into the ‘russia influenced social media’ (which is just the beginning- companies like facebook are also claiming that conservative sites and customers of FB are ‘negatively affecting people’s behaviors’ and they are actively banning such content already)
Time to introduce Norm to “the_donald”
Google’s Motto was “Don’t be Evil”
Their new Motto is “Do the Right Thing”
They’ve gone from the “Objective to the Subjective”
[[but every algorithmic tweak is done by biased humans to create their end result.]]
In otherwords- the experiments are ‘intelligently designed and influenced’ - this is why ‘evolution models’ fail to be truly neutral and random- because intelligent designers ALWAYS influence the outcome in one way or another- it’s unavoidable
Got it.
Yup
bttt
I thought the irs had this decades ago.
open the pod bay doors, norman
Perfect for plo pa abbas Fatah Isis Hamas hezballah cair and muslim brotherhood and Iran ?
Captain Kirk: Everything Harry tells you is a lie. Remember that. Everything Harry tells you is a lie. Harcourt Fenton Mudd: Now listen to this carefully, Norman. I am... lying. Norman: You say you are lying, but if everything you say is a lie, then you are telling the truth, but you cannot tell the truth because everything you say is a lie, but you lie... You tell the truth but you cannot for you lie... illogical! Illogical! Please explain! You are human. Only humans can explain their behavior! Please explain! Captain Kirk: [giving him the same statement the androids have repeatedly given him several times before] I am not programmed to respond in that area.
There was another AI experiment where the AI has collect the most apples. It played against a person or another AI persona. After it figured out how to play the game. It was given a weapon. In every instance after that the AI persona used its weapon first and killed its opponent.
Agreed! (Wasn’t Tay first?)
