RUSH: The Miss America thing? Uh, the Official Program Observer I guess youve been chomping at the bit waiting for me to weigh in on (interruption) Well, doesnt surprise me. You act surprised by this. Heres the news on the Miss America Pageant, which the last time it had significant viewers was when I was a judge and it was in Las Vegas and at Planet Hollywood. We took the show out there for a week and judging the Miss America Pageant was an eight-hour a day thing.
There were two judges, a couple Hollywood comedians, when they found out at the judge orientation, quit. They left. They thought it was just gonna be sitting there gazing at women in swimsuits and voting on them, and when they found out how detailed and involved it was, they skedaddled. It was a major controversy. The Miss America people were wondering whether to announce who they were or not. It was decided to slap a gag order on em.
But one of these comedians took me aside, Man, did you know this was gonna be this involved? I said, Well, I had an idea. Well, man, to hell with this. This is not what Im signed up for, and he just left. Left the hotel, left town. I hung in there, and there were some good judges that year. I won the judge dance contest at the judge party, the night of the pageant, before the TV coverage began. Mario Lopez emceed it, and Shawn
The great Olympics gymnastics from Iowa, Shawn Im having a mental block on her name. Shawn Johnson. She was one of the judges too. Gretchen Carlson is a former Miss America from Minnesota, and she now runs the pageant, and Gretchen has said that its not a pageant anymore, that it is a competition. So no more swimsuit. (summarized) No more women parading on stage in swimsuits. Were not gonna have that anymore at Miss America, and were gonna ditch the evening gown competition. No more parading in swimsuits, one piece or two, and no more parading around in evening gowns.
Instead, the contestants will be allowed to dress in whatever makes them comfortable and will have more interaction with the judges about life in general and their feelings and thoughts and so forth philosophies on life in general and that will have an even greater weight in the ultimate decision of who is Miss America. Okay. What are the ? (interruption) What are the snarky comments in there? I can see people are already (interruption)
This is why they dont have microphones in there, folks, because I can tell by the facial expressions theres a lot of snark in there. Theres a lot of disrespect in the form of jokes going around in there. (interruption) No, they cant call it The View. The View is already taken by ABC and, besides, theyre taking the view out of this. (interruption) Whos gonna watch women talking? Uh, well, who does that most in the course of your average American day? Other women. (interruption)
Uh (sigh) Well, you say, you say that it is other women who spend the day listening to other women talk, but Well, maybe in your world it is. (interruption) No, I dont think its gonna be an increase in ratings, but its a statement. This is (interruption) This is (interruption) Look, there is (interruption)Change is constant. You understand that. And this is a direct offshoot of #MeToo. This is a direct offshoot of the objectification of the female body and its purposes. This is a natural I mean, you have activist women fed up with the casting couch and fed up with Hollywood and fed up with the traditional way women are thought to have to behave in order to advance themselves.
This is a natural evolution of a rejection of all of that. James Woods tweeted something on this. He said, Yeah, sign me up. A bunch of women in trench coats walking around on a stage. I cant wait. Something like that. Im reading his tweet, not verbatim. Im paraphrasing it. I dont think This is the thing. I cant think that theyre doing this for audience purposes. This is a statement. Now, the contestants. Is this something that theyre signed up for or they just have to go along with it because these are the new rules?
I dont know. (interruption) Oh, theyll find sponsors! Theyll find sponsors for it. Theres gonna be all kinds of people want to throw their money to this for the apparent PR value of it. The new edition of Miss America designed to show an entirely, completely new side of Americans young women and the #MeToo movement and the aftermath or what have you. They wont have any problem. I dont know about the audience. I dont know what their audience now is. Last time I know it was when the year I judged.
I am loving this. Women, objectifying women so men won’t objectify them. The ironic part about this is “#metoo” is “poundmetoo.” /not mine, but I’m using it here
I think Miss America is just trying to survive. It’s been a joke for a long time. One thing is for sure, if they go the route of PC identity politics they can hang it up. People may tolerate that sort of thing, but they aren’t going to watch it by choice.
Its long been a truism that “sex sells” but we are long past the time of boys hoarding Victoria’s Secret catalogs with all the porn all over the internet. That market is saturated.
What would be great is if it turned into basically a competition for scholarships and jobs, which in truth it always was really. Pave the way for best practices and I think it will turn into the world’s best reality tv show.
Is there anything the Left touches that doesn’t turn to c**p?
This is one of my favorites:
>>Were not gonna have that anymore at Miss America, and were gonna ditch the evening gown competition.
And go straight to night gowns?
Whoa, thats pretty bold to go on television where the camera is pointed in that direction.
I guess fat, ugly feminists want a crack at the title.
I submit that there is all ready proof about how this latest SJW effort will play out.
Didn’t Playboy magazine remove their nude centerfolds a couple of years ago when there was a major management change? And yet the centerfolds are back.
I think the circulation numbers collapsed and management had to make a choice - continue to be SJW and lose their paychecks and life style; or, go back to a proven marketing program and keep their paychecks and life style.
BLUF - you can not lose 1/3rd of your market and stay in business. Ask the dimocrats.
Hey, at least she is wearing something and not a thong.
Something about the eyes fooling the brain or is it the other way around?
Sorry about that. :-)
By the way, doesn't she look like a fullback in that photo?
One of her callers, suggested since it was no longer about looks and beauty, why didn't they just broadcast the pageant as a radio program.
I laughed out loud in the car at that remark.
Says it all in nutshell about changing a beauty pageant into a "how do you feel about such and such" pageant.
Reminds me of the beauty pageant contestant, who when asked to tell the audience and judges about her favorite date, she replied that April 10th was nice. Not too hot, not too cold. But she sure was pretty in that swimsuit though.
I haven't watched these things since I was in high school, maybe college. But I would guess this is not only going to kill their TV audience but more than likely it will be the demise of the pageant itself eventually.
I still think they need to do this as a reality show. Bikini-clad women can be found in any beer commercial plus as I said before, internet. The Pageant system is so outlandish in so many ways that they could definitely have a good run just on that.
