Angela Merkel dashes Emmanuel Macron’s eurozone dreams

... In Berlin, Macron’s proposals were met with a combination of skepticism and fear, especially among Merkel’s conservative base.

Though no country has benefited more than Germany from the currency union, many Germans remain convinced that much of the rest of Europe — particularly the Mediterranean states — is trying to pick its pockets. The Greek bailouts, which cost Germany little in the grander scheme of things, only hardened that impression.

In fact, for much of the German establishment, Macron’s ideas are nothing less than an open invitation to raid Berlin’s treasury.

This is the same Nobel Committee that gave a peace prize to Al Gore for a bad propaganda film. The same committee that gave one to Obama after 3 weeks in office because they liked his speeches. They have zero credibility.

Oh, and the EU did not bring peace to Europe or restore its broken economies. The Anglo-Saxons did.

Exactly what caught my eye, as well. Hilarious lines like “New figures show that Germany has earned more than €1.3 billion from the hundreds of billions in aid given to Athens over the past decade” just keep me shaking my head. A return of less than 0.1% can barely even be called a profit. Hundreds of billions, to a nation of 10 million, is a few thousand dollars, per person, per year, for a decade... as if Greeks are Germany’s responsibility. Further, the Greeks voted themselves a lower retirement age during this decade (early retirement now at 58), while Germans voted themselves a higher normal retirement age (from 65 up to 67)... meaning that Germans get to work for almost a decade longer so that Greeks can continue to maintain their lifestyle while their government is still spending more than they take in. The entitlement mentality is not just an American problem.

The Euro has effectively been a huge competitive currency devaluation for Germany. Without the Euro, the D-mark would have appreciated in value making German goods more expensive and thus reducing exports. By being locked into a rigid single currency, Southern Europeans got the benefit of cheap credit.....which OF COURSE they were undisciplined with and bought up far more German exports than they otherwise would have. That increased unemployment in those countries while boosting German employment.

The catch is that it’s German banks and ultimately German taxpayers who underwrote all this and should any of those countries default.....which is inevitable....it is those German banks and taxpayers who will have to write off those loans.

Meantime now that the Southern Europeans are tapped out, Germany is desperately seeking new markets to keep the whole mercantilist system going. Thus them being so upset over losing Saddam and now losing the chance to take even more of the Mullah’s blood money. Thus the laughable hollow threats about cosying up to China (even more mercantile than they are) and Russia which has little more than oil.

Chancellor Angela Merkel draws the line against the One World agenda and defends key areas of fiscal sovereignty in the European Union.

Ya gotta love it when socialists start eating one another!

Pass the popcorn!

Seriously.

I was wondering if I’m the only person that knew that Europe was never some peaceful land of harmony and brotherhood.

Those people spent the better part of the past 1000 years trying to find creative ways, and petty excuses, to dominate and kill each other.

Sure. Like the Anglo-Saxons did from the First WW.

A lot of people argue about who gets into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame too.
That doesn’t make them all bad.

Except, here that is not being allowed to happen.

Enjoy your popcorn anyway.

Germany refuses to write blank checks for the rest of Europe.

Who would have thought it?

The socialist structure of the Government in Belgium has moved ever closer to globalism. Global socialism (also known as communism) is closer to Christianity than the monarchies of the first world war?

Not hardly.

I hope you're wrong and by that I mean I hope the democrat party (our socialist party) and all liberals aligned with it - devour one another into obscurity.

The Scandinavian region..home of the Nobel Committee, has a Euthanasia problem among other crises rooted in the Eugenics-rooted mentality of Adolf Hitler. In mainland Europe, countries like The Netherlands fund more international abortions around the world and modes of third world population control through various NGO’s and things — than any other nation it seems...

In the name of things like “climate change.”

According to Mother Teresa, abortion is the biggest killer of world peace. “The greatest destroyer of peace today is abortion, because it is a war against the child... And if we accept that a mother can kill even her own child, how can we tell other people not to kill one another?”

That is just one thing...but E.U. legacy is not quite so simple. And many of its citizens have been left spiritually bereft. Part of the turmoil happening on the continent now is a direct result of those resulting pent up frustrations...Ironically, the E.U. is fragmenting as people seek spriritual wholeness the Age of Science cannot provide.

You might have noticed, Ireland just voted for abortion and that had nothing to do with the EU.

It is actually to the credit of the EU that Ireland was restrictive against abortion while being an EU member.

What else have you got?

Current enlargement agenda
On 6 February 2018, the European Commission published its expansion plan,[70] which covers the six Western Balkan countries. The plan envisages that all six applicants could achieve accession as members of the European Union after 2025. In May 2018, Bulgaria - holding the rotating presidency of the Council of the European Union - hosted a summit on the Western Balkans, which aimed to facilitate accession by the six, including enhanced regional security cooperation and regional connectivity.

Heh. Now the Germans are beginning to feel like most Americans have felt since the shooting stopped for WW2.

The entire world has it’s arms into our pockets up to their shoulders.

Well as I said before, at the moment: “Europe” and “E.U.” are interchangeable concepts in people’s minds. Eastern European countries want to break free from their communist legacies. That is good. But the E.U. core members like UK and Italy have been souring. Not because they are any less “European” but because they are unhappy with the “E.U.”

Not sure that E.U. has been good influence on Ireland especially judging from the abortion vote...but indeed, their Catholic identity is complex and fraught with baggage.

I’d say EU had about as much influence on Ireland voting for abortion as UK voting to remain, next to none.

Still, like I said, it is to the credit of the EU that Ireland was restrictive against abortion while being an EU member.

CityofLondon keyword, another good one is Tobin Tax, or even Eurozone.

The EU is a group of unelected bureaucrats-for-life dictating laws, with a rubberstamp elected body that has no real power. Their main trouble is, trying to remain fiscally responsible (or at least appear to be), but that's just a false face from behind which they make demands for irrevocable tax increases. Everything about the EU is to undermine the sovereignty of individual states. If the lower income states ripped themselves away, the false face approach on raising taxes would be harder to sell (to say the least), and the upper income states would have even less control over the flood of illegals. Tax policies in the former member states would attract companies from member states.

My German wife regularly votes for a party and then seats are assigned based on the percentage won.

Let's compare that to, oh I don't know let's say the UK that is leaving the EU. In the UK the voters elect party members who then decide who will run for Prime Minister.

Seems really similar doesn't it?

If you want unelected bureaucrats though, then I will refer to The House of Lords in London.

What you posted: "Everything about the EU is to undermine the sovereignty of individual states."

Is completely refuted by Merkel's position and quote in this article:

The gist: Berlin will put a little more money on the table and accept a bit more risk-sharing, but France and the rest of the eurozone can bury any lingering hope that Germany will pursue a great leap forward in eurozone integration by endorsing anything resembling a full-fledged fiscal union.

“Solidarity must never lead to a debt union, but must come in the form of help towards self-help,” Merkel told the newspaper.

That doesn’t address the fact that those elected to the EU body don’t have any meaningful power. Neither does any of Merkel’s self-serving sound bites.
