Pope summons oil execs to Vatican to talk climate change

Pope Francis will meet with some of the world’s oil executives next week, likely to give them another moral nudge to clean up their act on global warming.

Climate change policy and science experts are cautiously hopeful but aren’t expecting any miracles or even noticeable changes.

The conference will be a follow-up to the pope’s encyclical three years ago calling on people to save the planet from climate change and other environmental ills, Vatican spokesman Greg Burke confirmed Friday. Cardinal Peter Turkson, who spearheaded the encyclical, set up the June 8-9 conference with the executives. The pope himself will speak to the leaders on the second day of the summit, organized with the University of Notre Dame, Burke said.

Officials at the Vatican and Notre Dame would not disclose who is coming. BP, however, confirmed that its CEO Robert Dudley plans to attend, and Exxon Mobil said CEO Darren Woods would be there. Woods said this week that his company is trying to balance the risks of climate change with growing demand for energy to raise living standards in the developing world.

Michael Oppenheimer, a professor of geosciences and international affairs at Princeton University, said he doubts anything “measurable” will come out of the conference but he was nevertheless hopeful. …

The pope, who arranged the bammy-castro deal, and the bammy-mullah deal, is using his position as head of state of Vatican City, to promote his leftist agenda.

Meanwhile, this phony baloney “pope” flies around the world on a chartered Alitalia jumbo jet.

If he really believes in “globull warming,” the pope and his entourage should travel on regularly scheduled commercial flights....in coach.

The Pope is the perfect propagandist for Global Warming BS.

Technologically ignorant but proficient at moral posturing.

If this Pagan would just listen instead of talking, he might learn something.

Oh; the fake Pope probably just wants to find out the best deal on castor oil or something.

No doubt the oil companies are sending some low level execs to placate him and offer him some enema samples to keep him regular.

I’m looking forward to the day when we get a real Pope. Not this obama bot wannabe.

(Not to you Olog-hai, but the idiot trying to kill the Catholic church) Dear (apparently the Anti-)Pope,
With all due respect, meaning none, go pound sand instead of altar boys, and in the rare occasion, young girls. You and your ilk have no basis of fact, and as I heard discussed and described this past week, belief in "man-made climate change" appears to be anti-Biblical. The all powerful, all knowing, never changing, all encompassing God of the Universe, created the universe with His words. To think we humans, who are specks of dust on the Earth, which is less than a speck of dust in the universe, can do something, ANYTHING, to the ecosystem that God designed and balanced from the beginning of time, through the end of time, is hubris unmatched. And, I believe that God, through His son Jesus, allows us to go directly to Him, and there is no need for your intermediary interjection into my relationship with Our Father. So, again, respect as due, go pound sand.

Sounds like some neurotic ultra-montanist. In a perfect world the pope's musings and utterances would be given weightier consideration than normal due to his office. In reality, this pope's musings aren't worth the pennies it would cost to have them printed on toilet paper.

A roman collar is like a commission. If you don't live up to the duties it entails then you're worse than shit. Just my opinion, of course.

I’ve forgiven him about fifty percent for his Trump tantrum

His neoconfederate Dinesh Goldberg rants are my biggest beef

With him

He is good at some stuff...the links from Socrates to the Hobbes and Hegel to Camus and Hayek

The evolution of mans place here

He talks that well

Climate change is nothing. That is personal opinion. Communion for people in flagrant mortal sin is relativising Doctrine and Dogma. That is flagrant heresy.

I tuned him out for what seemed like a year during his Trump tirade. But few months ago, I happened to hear Levin’s glowing commentary of a notable Trump speech.

I tune in more frequently now hoping to hear the good stuff you identified.

Regarding devout callers, I don’t ever recall piety being central to Levin’s programming, but I know’s he polite about it.

well for a devout Catholic like me, I say "Psh - he's just one Pope - we've had worse, and survived, thanks to God".

A lot of Francis is about show - he hasn't changed anything yet which is of substance.

If he wants to talk global warming, let him - that's a non-religious topic.

He’s said many things I’ve never heard another Pope

How’d he get elected

The COC had to know how he was

And that’s why they chose him

What do they hope for

Bring commies and gays into the church

I hope not but it looks like pandering from here

And like I said I don’t think Benedict just up and quit for nothing

Have the progressives taken control of the COC

The gay crap especially in light of recent history seems counterproductive

Benedict had it in for the fags....and now he’s gone replaced by a Pope who says stuff in public about homosexuality which is plain and simple apostate to any Christian who has a Bible

You can’t just dismiss this guy .....I hope he is a one off...

But why’d they pick him

Like I said the Pope matters to the world not just your church

#1 He's said many things I've never heard another Pope say --> we've had only 3 Popes in the past 38 years. Pope Francis makes a lot of nice soundbites for the press, and has improved the image of the Church to the (liberal) media, but hasn't changed any dogma, despite making the soundbites

#2 how'd he get elected? Ballot of cardinals -- Pope Benedict was very sound theologically but he didn't know how to cultivate the press. It may be that Francis is for the short term PR.

#3 Before he was elected we didn't know all his views. We knew he would be unconventional - and some, like giving up the Popemobile, reaching out to the Orthodox and Lutherans and staying at the guest house and also cleaning up the curia has been good

#4 He hasn't brought any commies into the Church or gays for that matter. He has other errors made yes, but not those

#5 I don't believe it's pandering, he really seems to believe in the social causes as you can see in his history

#6 What exactly has Francis said about homersex uality?

Quite frankly, all of these are the positions you would hold as well, namely:
1.Family is important and should be protected from "gaymarriage"
2. Stand by your children -- even if they have such (temporary) tendencies, stand by them and pray (and he didn't add to pray for them to be saved from these)
3. "Who am I to judge" - This is a nice PR trick - he says he doesn't judge, but then at the same time he doesn't say anything about LGBXY

Overall if you read Francis' soundbites, he doesn't actually say anything, it just sounds nice to the (liberal) media

I am not dismissing the Pope -- I very seriously look at what he said EX CATHEDRA i.e. on dogma. What the Pope says on climate change etc I listen, but disagree on quite a few things - it's his personal opinion and as good as mine or yours.

There have been 266 Popes, so 1 doesn't change the big picture of things.
