A perfect storm of murder, addiction and carelessness has fueled a recent and troubling increase in deaths among U.S. children and teens, a new government report shows.
The total death rate for those aged 10 to 19 rose 12 percent between 2013 and 2016, mostly due to an increase in deaths from accidental injury, homicide and suicide, researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found.
In short, the United States is becoming less safe for teenagers.
The primary causes of injury deaths were motor vehicle accidents, suicide, firearms-related murders and drug overdoses, the report discovered.
"For children in the U.S., the rate of deaths has increased recently, and it's from a multitude of these injury death causes," said report author Sally Curtin, a statistician with the CDC's National Center for Health Statistics. "You can't just say it's suicide or homicide. It really is a combination of causes."
The death rate among kids aged 10 to 19 was 33.1 deaths per 100,000 children in 2016, up from 29.6 deaths per 100,000 in 2013, according to the report.
The increase comes after more than a decade of improved child safety. Between 1999 and 2013, the death rate for kids in this age range declined by 33 percent.
But in recent years, the trend reversed course:
Unintentional injuries increased 13 percent between 2013 and 2016, after declining 49 percent between 1999 and 2013.
Suicide rates increased 56 percent between 2007 and 2016, after dropping 15 percent between 1999 and 2007.
Homicide rates increased 27 percent between 2014 and 2016, after declining 35 percent between 2007 and 2014.

From negligible to negligible. Small numbers like that are highly susceptible to statistical variations. One nasty bus accident could bump the death rate by 3.5 per 100,000.

Behind these terrible statistics is the usual suspect entity known as liberalism. One can trace just about everything bad, evil, or stupid to liberalism.

Exactly right. There are also more realistic, first-person-shooter games and deviant, anti-social video games like Grand Theft Auto that glorify crime and allow the expression of sexual violence. There’s also God of War, Witcher, Mass Effect, and many others.
What’s worse is the expansion of the LGBTQWERTY agenda into society and the public schools. As adults, we can switch off the TV or boycott companies we disagree with, but kids can’t get away from this stuff. It is demonically oppressive and depressing.

No, but its easy to stick one’s head in the sand. These cities have always had problems. IMHO white America is in a crisis.
My take as well. If you go from 1 to 2 you can scream a headline of 100% increase.

Educate yourself. Black and Hispanic death rates are going down and white death rates are rising. But you ignorantly blame the trend on inner cities. SAD!

I would add to that ... that the bullying has increased BECAUSE of social media. You can say any hateful thing you want about someone and EVERYONE sees it. You can even set up a fake account and do it anonymously.
As insecure as the teenage years are anyway, add in this abuse - with no redress or punishment for the bullies - and it must be torture.
And the feminization of parenting. Even in my family, I am criticized whenever my parenting takes a form that might actually stick in the adolescent mind. Wife and sisters and even mother still recall “feeling” uncomfortable whenever their father raised his voice. Funny, I recall it by thinking “yeah, he was right.”

No real trends there for any race in particular. Maybe one for black teens over the last 5 years.
