Several N.F.L. teams determined cheerleading programs had a scarcity problem on game days. If cheerleaders were on the sideline dancing, none were available to serve as scantily clad hostesses who could mingle with fans high up in the cheap seats or in the luxury suites, where teams catered to big-money customers. To address that shortcoming, some teams created a different kind of cheerleading team — one whose members did not do any cheering or require any dance training. They were hired mainly for their appearance. Their visits with male fans, the teams believed, produced a better game-day experience, akin to the approach of the Hooters restaurant chain.

The NFL had cheerleaders on the 1950s and early 60s. Since their games are on Sunday, I assume that their cheerleading was also on Sunday.
My HS had games on Their so that we could use the college stadium. We had cheerleaders on Thursdays accordingly. Circa 1961-64.
Hard to say cheerleading was only a Fri-Sat event.

I’ve heard that while many cheerleaders are skilled in cheer and dance, they are really part of the cheerleaders team because they are looking for a husband.
Those who get assigned to hang out in the skyboxes would be thrilled, then, as they get to hang out with some rich men.
Few say this sort of thing out loud, but the chance to mix and mingle with some wealthy men , likely enters into the calculus of some women who are involved with this.
