I also believe (accurately) that welfare hurts the vast majority of those who depend on it, so wanting those people to support themselves is a sign of compassion rather than prejudice.

1 - It is RACIST to suggest most welfare recipients are non-white.
2 - It is RACIST to keep people dependent of government handouts rather than motivate them to independence.
