A Tesla sedan in Autopilot mode crashed into a parked Laguna Beach Police Department vehicle Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The collision happened at 11:07 a.m. at 20652 Laguna Canyon Road, according to Laguna Police Sgt. Jim Cota. The officer was not in the cruiser at the time of the crash. The Tesla driver suffered minor injuries, but refused transportation to the hospital.
Thankfully there was not an officer at the time in the police car, Cota said. The police car is totaled.

In the Arizona pedestrian fatality, I would have sued not only the company, but the city/county/ and state for allowing people to be their guinea pigs for profit.
The engineers can fix all this by putting robot chaffeurs in all driverless cars.
The other day on the freeway, a Tesla approached from behind in heavy traffic at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic without slowing down.. Was this IDIOT in auto pilot going on a suicide mission?
I think Elon should stick to space launches. He’s spread himself too thin.
Here’s the wording right out of the Tesla manual:
Warning:
Autosteer is a hands-on feature.
You must keep your hands on the steering
wheel at all times.
Warning:
Autosteer is intended for use
only on highways and limited-access
roads with a fully attentive driver. When
using Autosteer, hold the steering wheel
and be mindful of road conditions and
surrounding
traffic.
Do not use Autosteer
on city streets, in construction zones, or
in areas where bicyclists or pedestrians
may be present. Never depend on
Autosteer to determine an appropriate
driving path. Always be prepared to take
immediate action. Failure to follow these
instructions could cause damage, serious
injury or death

Two words. Ha ha.
I’m the same way. I’m rarely a passenger. Maybe 500 miles a year, at best. I drive 30-40,000 a year.
When my kids had their permits, the first couple weeks were filled with panic and sheer terror, after that, it was hard to pay attention enough to even stay awake. I looked and didn’t see anything that said the parent had to stay awake.
I would guess with the booster landing upright, there are less variables, wind, platform movement, rocket sequence etc and it seems they've nearly perfected it or almost.
But on highways, I would guess the variables could be endless.
Btw, were going to see a lot more of these collisions with these vehicles. I would guess with a near perfect system, a new car would have to be prohibitively priced.
I will never own one as I trust no one in control of a vehicle but me.
Maybe the Tesla had too much juice
LOL!
Oh Noes! better adjust the algorithm!
So in other words, only use this vehicle in driverless mode, on a straight desert highway.
It has a software bug, because Autopilot is programmed to normally target pedestrian girls, not police cars.
Oh, OK, so now the scapegoat is they’re not RTFM. Fabulous.
Will not happen...ever.
I want to drive....even when I'm with someone who I trust.
I don't fall asleep when I'm a passenger. I'm always awake...
Car was turning itself in.
....with cool wind in your hair....
But how does it operate safely withot all that stuff? Is that, perhaps, the reason it crashed?
Did they arrest the AI?
