A Tesla sedan in Autopilot mode crashed into a parked Laguna Beach Police Department vehicle Tuesday morning, authorities said.
The collision happened at 11:07 a.m. at 20652 Laguna Canyon Road, according to Laguna Police Sgt. Jim Cota. The officer was not in the cruiser at the time of the crash. The Tesla driver suffered minor injuries, but refused transportation to the hospital.
Thankfully there was not an officer at the time in the police car, Cota said. The police car is totaled.

WOW
Arrest that car and throw it into a cell with a truck named Bubba.
Hitting a police car never ends well....auto pilot or no
Look, anytime ya get big companies involved in regards to fatalities, it generally means they settled for big league bucks. That’s why they want to keep the settlements secret, or undisclosed. It makes the investors really uncomfortable etc, etc.
So true, so true...
Why would they settle at all if they were not at fault in regards to the death of the pedestrian?
...
Because you never know what a jury is going to do. They can be just as irrational as some FReepers.
Great, now they have BLM writing their software.
There are some thing where you DO NOT use racial quotas, regardless of whether it means EEOC or the Rev. Jesse Jackson suing you.

Thanks, in other words, you don’t know.
So how do these driverless cars operate on freeways with parked cars on both sides of them most days?
Well ya, it’s undisclosed. I think I explained that to ya.

...
Did you notice that I said parking spots? The markings on the road make a big difference.
Actually when it comes to fatalities, juries generally put the screws to the big dollar companies. That’s just a fact of life.
You are so right.
I have had to drive on many long cross-country trips from the time I was 18. I love to drive and still can do 1100+ miles per day if I have a need and not be in any way tired, but put me in a position where I am not the driver and I am tired and non-attentive within an hour.
Ya mean the painted lines?
Is there a list of criteria that shows the driver when to enact or disable the driver-less system?
“Officer, it wasn’t my fault! Honest, it was on Tesla Autopilot. I’d had a few drinks, so I didn’t want to drive myself. Talk to Elon.”
All self-driving cars should be Smart Cars or smaller
Hoo sez it was an autonomous car? Where are all the whirlleygigs on the roof, etc?
The trouble with the autopilot is that since it works well in certain circumstances, idiots think it will work well in all situations. It clearly won’t. And Tesla thinks that drivers will stay alert when using it. They clearly don’t.
Tesla shares responsibility for crashes like this because human nature makes them inevitable, and Tesla deployed this system knowing this would be the result.
