A young child is severely injured after being bitten in the face by a dog in Wallingford on Friday night, according to police.
Police say they received multiple calls about a young child being bitten in the face by a dog on 10 Simpson Avenue around 7:45 p.m.
Officers say they found a 61-year-old man and his two grandchildren, ages one and six, near Center Street sitting in the back of a car that had stopped to help. According to police, the grandfather was holding his 1-year-old grandson who had suffered severe injuries to his head and face. His 6-year-old granddaughter had also suffered a bite wound to her buttocks area.
The two children were transported to Yale Pediatric Hospital for treatment and the man was transported to Yale-New Haven Hospital for treatment of minor injuries, officers say.
Investigators learned the dog, an English Bulldog, was with its owner in the backyard of a house on Simpson Avenue when the dog walked to the front yard and approached the man and his grandchildren as they walked by on the sidewalk. According to the dog's owner, the dog attacked the child when the man started yelling at the dog and pulled a stroller away.
Officers say the dog's owner is cooperating with the investigation. The dog is currently under quarantine by Wallingford Animal Control, however officials say he is up to date with his rabies vaccinations.
Police have not released the name of the dog's owner. The names of the victims have also not been released.
If your dog maims a person off your property due to your negligence in keeping it properly secured, you need to go to prison.
If you think that you are unable to properly secure your dog, don't get one.

Most dog breeds, and some cats, are highly territorial.
To a dog a public sidewalk in front of his house is HIS sidewalk. If someone passes by most dogs will take notice, some will investigate.
If the passerby behaves aggressively (body language) to include yelling or being in some way erratic, all bets are off and the dog MAY respond.

When I was a Lieutenant living on base the homes across the street were for Field Grade officers. A real snotty Major, B-52 Navigator, went on leave and left his two mean Rottweilers in his garage. My neighbors and I were sitting outside on a beautiful summer day and watched those two dogs chew through the fiberglass garage door. We called the LE desk and they responded just before the hole was big enough for those two mean dogs to get loose.
what a putz! who leaves the dogs in the garage when they go on leave??? Never mind- apparently Major Snot did.
