The hunt is on.
James Mangold is writing and will direct a Star Wars stand-alone movie centered on Boba Fett, the feared bounty hunter and fan-favorite character, The Hollywood Reporter has exclusively learned.
The reveal comes as Disney and Disney-owned Lucasfilm prepare for the release of the latest Star Wars stand-alone film, Solo: A Star Wars Story. Solo, which opens Friday, is the second movie to be spun from the main Star Wars line Rogue One: A Star Wars Story was the first but it is the first to focus on a particular character.
Lucasfilm is developing movies on a slew of characters including Obi-Wan Kenobi, which has Stephen Daldry in negotiations to direct, although no writers are working on a script.
It was rumored that Simon Kinberg, the writer-producer behind the X-Men franchise and films such as The Martian, was working on a Boba Fett movie. While Lucasfilm and Disney wont make any official confirmation, sources say that Mangold will co-write the script with Kinberg, who will also produce the Boba Fett project. Kinberg and Mangold are close, having worked on Logan, the X-Men spinoff that earned high praise last year.

“Star Wars nothing but Star Wars.”
Disney owns it, and they will wring every last penny out of this franchise until it’s nothing but a smoldering pile of rubble.
Hopefully this “solo” movie will tank. Big time.
They should have a ride at Disneyworld where you are eaten by Jabba the Hut and later excreted.
So what is really going on here? Are they going to make individual movies of all characters, and show the backstory of every single character in the Star Wars universe?
Will their fan base really what to see such movies? How far will they go? Will they go so far as to show Uncle Owen and Aunt Veru and how they hooked up?
How dumb. We already know his beginning (SW II - Attack of the Clones), and his end (SW VI - Return of the Jedi). What is left to tell? Its not like Solo, where at least we might have had an interesting origins story behind Han Solo. I say might have had, if Disney didn’t homo it all up.
More possibilities. R1D1, R3D3, C4PO the explosive robot. Lid Lid Binks, Jar Jar’s twin brother.
Yep. Everything they touch turns to crap.
Speaking of that...
'Solo: A Star Wars Story' Ready to Top Memorial Day Weekend Box Office
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4401&p=.htm
FRIDAY AM UPDATE: Disney and Lucasfilm's Solo: A Star Wars Story brought in $14.1 million from Thursday evening previews, topping the previous Memorial Day record of $13.2 million set by Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, which also holds the Memorial Day four-day weekend record of $139.8 million ($153m including those Thursday previews, which occurred in ~3,100 theaters). This is a solid start for the feature which is hoping to deliver a new Memorial Day weekend record.
Oh wow, I’ve been waiting for a movie about Jar Jars brother.
Sarcasm
“Hopefully this solo movie will tank. Big time.”
I’ve always wanted to see movies that centered on young Han’s antics. However, with what Disney is doing to this franchise (i.e. Lando is a “pansexual”), I couldn’t care less what happens now. It’s all dead to me :-). Screw them.
I can tolerate some SJW garbage here and there, but there comes a point where too much is enough. TLJ was pretty lame, but Lando was my tipping point ... the frigging racists at Disney, of course, had to make the black guy the deviant :-).
I’m sure they’ll make piles of cash w/o my contribution off this film ... I just hope that they fail miserably in the years to come since they’re doing a bunch of stupid crap to Star Wars.
It’s already underperforming initial projections (considerably lower than Rogue One).
What’s really going on is they didn’t spend $4 billion dollars on a franchise to not make it back.
Yes they’ll make movies of ALL the popular characters. Much like they made books of ALL the popular characters. Yes the fan base wants to see these movies, SW books were the most popular media book franchise ever. It will keep going until the money dries up. And yes they might even wind up having to explain moisture farming in the Uncle Owen movie, but he’s at least 20 or 30 movies down the pipe.
Hahaha! And they could also do a Jar Jar Binks musical.
Deadline originally projected the movie to gross $150-$170 and now they’ve lowered it considerably.
Prepare yourself for a transsexual Boba.
Disney is a corporation milking this property for as much cash as it can squeeze from it; it’s no more complicated than that.
Oh fer crying out loud!
Sounds like the plan.
