Whether they're referred to as Internet games or challenges, there's no denying that kids have been seriously drawn to them recently. Sometimes it's for Internet fame while other times children are just curious or want the chance to feel included. Either way, kids in all age groups have been putting themselves in serious danger trying to successfully take part in them and it needs to stop. After one mom found her 12-year-old son dead while playing the "fainting challenge," she's warning other parents about the deadly game that has already taken multiple kids' lives.
On Friday, 12-year-old Tua Muai was playing the "fainting game" -- also known as the "choking game" -- with his friends in his Utah home. In order to partake, they were purposely cutting off the oxygen to their brains in order to get a non-drug-related high or rush.
But shortly after, the boy's mom, Celestia Muai, found him unconscious and immediately called 911. The sixth grader was transported to a local hospital and died later that evening. "He was just playing a game and he didn't think things through," Muai told Fox 13.

Kids today are so damn stupid.
Hell, we were mischievous, but we weren’t pure idiots.
I guarantee that none of us would have nibbled on a Tide Pod.
In fact, we would have made fun of the moron who suggested it.
In the early ‘sixties the same thing went around, but you would hyperventilate for a couple of minutes, then hold your breath buckle over to squeeze your arms against your stomack real hard. I tried it in the middle of class in first grade. It worked. I woke up looking up at a ring of faces. Got to go home for the rest of the day.
I never did it again. I just wanted to see if it worked.
Psssst - if you burp, fart and sneeze at the same time, you’ll get high. Pass it on...
Mental health/life BUMP!
I did this to a friend in high school. He fell and seized for a min. Scared me and my other friend to death. When my friend came to, he thought it was amazing. Well he was a total stoner so he probably had trips worse then that.
Sad that a kid died from it.
“I find this odd. No simple training in CPR? Every parent should be familiar with the process.
It might have saved her son’s life. “
Not likely. CPR success rates are very low,10%.
I can tell you from experience, giving CPR to a corps which used to be your child sticks with you for a long, long time.
This woman is using her grief to help people. She has my respect and prayers.
It happened in 1987. I did it to a friend... He didn’t die though.
If anything is named “Challenge,” run away as fast as you can. Harm, injury, and death can occur. Unfortunately, kids don’t have much reasoning power.
I thought the bucket of ice water over the head thing was incredibly stupid. A company I worked for did it to raise charity money. Why not just write a check?
I’m a 70s child.
#1 from dear old Dad: “You need that like you need a hole in your head.”
This “Choking challenge” has been around a long time but it’s making a comeback in recent months.

I remember idiots doing that 50 years ago, when I was a kid. Even then I was smart enough not to do that.
Calling 911 is first according to the red cross. You don’t even have to stay on the line. But take 15 or 20 seconds to call 9/11... when you hear them answer, give an address and say you have to perform CPR and cannot answer questions.
It’s been around for a while - after watching two of my friends try it in about 1967, I decided against it.
Darwin at work. Sad, but inevitable.
We tried it too as kids back then. One kid would take a deep breath and do a valsalva maneuver, and another kid would come from behind, circle their arms around the chest, and lift them off the ground as they squeezed. It worked. Nobody died.
Just lucky I guess. Kids doing dumb kid things. Of course, if our parents had seen us, we would have gotten the belt.
Play stupid games, win deadly prizes.
Footnote: Same goes for liberals of any age.
The only reason I knew about it was because of a news story about a kid who did it who was in a coma.
The article gave pretty good instructions on how to do it.
I guess they wanted more kids in comas.
The Dead Cat Bounce Challenge. Kids suck on two nitrous nozzles from the whip cream canisters then jump off a building to see how high they bounce.
Kids just too young for “hold my beer and watch this”
