the last 5 Belmonts of the Triple Crown winners were won going wire to wire....Smith will send him to lead early..he usually rates beautifully..and if hes truly a Champion, they wont catch him. But..i hope he doesnt try and run the “perfect” off the pace trip. Smarty Jones..Big Brown etc all tried that..didnt work.
Definitely track condition matters. But in this case the conditions were the same as for the Derby. Sloppy. If it were a fast track (dry) then they would have analysed it somewhat differently. Then, Justify would have still been the heavy favorite.

A monster finish from Justify on an incredibly muddy Pimlico Race Course Saturday gave Hall of Fame trainer Bob Baffert added hope for his second American Triple Crown in four years, with his heavily favored horse taking the 2018 Preakness Stakes despite some early push from Good Magic.
Unlike the action at Churchill Downs, however, the payouts for wagers on the top three horses in Baltimore weren’t overwhelming.
Tenfold (25-1) was a long shot of the race who still managed a third-place finish behind Justify and Bravazo (15-1), so the paydays there weren’t too shabby. It tends to happen when the field of horses is limited to eight.
But in terms of the $2 exacta, $1 trifecta and $1 superfecta, which dished out $69.60, $141.40 and $19,618.20 for the Kentucky Derby, respectively, the totals weren’t as eye-popping from the Preakness Stakes.
The $2 exacta from Saturday’s race paid out $27.40, the $1 trifecta paid out $148.30, and the $1 superfecta paid out $372.50.
The following payout results applied to each of the top three horses, according to NBC:
Justify: $2.80 (Win), $2.80 (Place), $2.60 (Show)
Bravazo: $7.60 (Place), $4.80 (Show)
Tenfold: $6.80 (Show)

“Justify’s final winning time of 2:04.20 [for the Kentucky Derby] is the second slowest of the past 28 years.
But the first quarter mile of this Derby was the sixth-fastest opening quarter in Kentucky Derby history.
The opening half mile of 45.77 probably among the dozen fastest.”

What monster finish? He was tiring and almost lost. Mike Smith said he was tiring so he gave him the left-handed whip. Baffert gave all the credit to Smith. Bravazo will be at the Belmont, and probably Tenfold and
Good Magic.
Yeah, the monster finish by a Preakness winner was American Pharoah, in the slop and by some 5 lengths.
Also dominating was Smarty Jones, by 11 lengths. That was some horse.
I think Smith was more interested in annoying Good Magic with that left whip than he was in motivating Justify.
Great betting opportunity coming in the Belmont. The HEAVY favorite (Justify) will have a close to ZERO chance of winning.

Yeah, that was a silly remark. But it was a gutsy finish, to hang on after dueling it out with Good Magic for most of the race.
