LAS VEGAS (AP) Las Vegas police say a 23-year-old officer who has been with the department for two years shot and injured a woman who had a shovel and was "acting erratically" over the weekend.
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement Monday night that Officer Ondre Wills was among those responding to the incident Saturday night in east Las Vegas.

I am certain he “feared for his life” spoken as soon as some others arrived on the scene. Them be the magic words after shooting a civilian.
Is that almost always the case?
How curious. So infallible in deadly situations.
There may be more to this story than the video shows. We'll see.
“Them be the magic words after shooting a civilian.”

Citizen, sir, NOT a “civilian.”
That is “cop-speak” and you know it.
Dear God. This is why so many people no longer respect the police. This sort of overuse of deadly force has to stop.
One good cop could have rushed her. Several could have easily subdued her. It was absolutely unnecessary to shoot this woman.
Is there more to the story? Not much info and the video ends abruptly.
Good. Same cops would have killed a guy doing the same.
Damned. I thought Congress had outlawed “assault shovels”.
They’d better outlaw them and “assault picks”, “assault hoes (including Stormy Daniels), “assault rakes”, and “Insults that assault common sense” (that would be all liberals/leftists in jail).
Gonna need to raise taxes to do all this. Just saying. /sarc, I think.
I would say he wanted to wet his gear. Stupid cop going towards a life threatening situation. Oh and I hate cops. So truth in advertising.
+1
Seemed to me like he was really wanting tok shoot. Talking himself into it.
I saw no good reason to shoot her.
She had what could be used as a weapon true. I did not see her raise it as such or move towards the officer in a treating manner.
As stated before why not let her wander or as is stagger around until help arrived.
To many officers have no real world fighting experience.
That leads them to over estimate threats and use force that isn’t necessary.
From the short video I did not she where place the officer in danger.
The potential was there yes but had not increase to the level of needing deadly force yet.
“was told to put the shovel down but approached a bystander.”
Here’s the critical part. The cop thought the bystander was in danger from the woman acting erratically.
Obviously it’s a White woman, or this would be all over the news.
On the pause/zoom parts at the end, she’s heading in the direction of another bystander.
Had the cop waited to shoot, the bystander would’ve been in the line of fire.
The correct ATF designation is “Assault Entrenching Tool.”
It has irritated me for years when I hear the police call members of the public “civilians.”
The police are civilian law enforcement.
Unless one is an active duty member of the U.S. military, they are “civilians.”
We are all “citizens” in actuality.
My irritation is with the police who use the term “civilians,” not you personally doorgunner69.
A worker on a public construction project actually working? That kind of erratic?
We’ve all seen too many trigger happy cop videos, but in this case, what if the cop had allowed her to keep moving toward that bystander to the right, and all of a sudden split his head open with the shovel? Folks would be saying “He should have shot her earlier”.
If that cop wanted a risk free job he should open a doughnut shop or a gay bar.
I'm sure he'd fit right in.
