Why hasn't McCain explained this? Countries build memorials to honor their heroes, not the captives.
Come clean McCain.
Thanks Kid, good find.
I can’t do that from where I am. What are we looking at here ?
Have no idea what this’s about? Details, please!
As the great man (coach) explained:
The world treats winners differently than it does losers.

McCain memorial in Hanoi.
McCain has done more damage to Conservatives than Ted Kennedy.
McCain was shot down over a LAKE in Hanoi.
My blind guess is THIS is the lake McCain parachuted into.
My guess is this large placard commemorates that event.
It is said McCain made over 30 anti-US broadcasts.
They say he turned over technical data to NVA anti-aircraft gunners that later permitted the shooting-down of 50 or more US aircraft.
The reach claim is that McCain “TRAINED” some NVA gunners.
I doubt that last one but everyone here I think can marvel at just HOW much McCain as a politician solicits the approval of the other side.
Is it such a stretch that he would also , as a prisoner, would have done that...?
I think part of why he was offered early release was that he proved SO helpful.
I also think part of why he REFUSED early release was that he might have been enjoying part of what he was doing.
When they captured John McCain they captured US military ROYALTY.
He was the latest progeny of the very important McCain family. They named a naval vessel after his father and grandfather.
So this is likely a combination of both - since it was erected so long ago, it may have been a brag about the US Military prince that they captured.

Now, now. McCain was a true - and very rare - Cold War ace.
He got shot down in, crashed, burned up, destroyed, or ejected from FIVE enemy (er, US Navy ) planes .....
Crashing three planes (at fault) makes him the opposite of a hotshot pilot. No top gun, this guy. According to what I’ve read, McCain was sloppy and undisciplined, with only fair marks as a pilot.
Songbird. The nickname seems apt.

Kicking a dying horse is not a useful pastime...why bother giving him any more “publicity” at all these days?
