Margot Kidder, the actress who played Lois Lane in "Superman," died Sunday in Montana ... TMZ has learned.
Margot was at her home when she passed away, according to the spokesperson at Franzen-Davis Funeral Home in Livingston, MT. The cause of death is unknown at this point.
Bruce Becker, the Park County Attorney, tells TMZ ... an unknown person called police to report Margot was unconscious and not breathing. Police responded and found her dead. The death is now under investigation.
Margot starred opposite Christopher Reeve in 1978's "Superman," and also in the 3 sequels. She continued acting right up until this year, taking small roles in TV shows and movies -- but also had stage roles ... including "The Vagina Monologues" on Broadway. She reportedly had 2 more roles yet to be released.
Margot had a very public battle with bipolar disorder for years. During her struggle she was briefly homeless in 1996. Margot became an advocate for mental health after that incident.
She'd been married 3 times, although she'd been single since the '80s.
Margot is survived by a daughter.
RIP

Sisters is a really good film though.
That is a long life for bipolar, sad to say. RIP.
My SIL only made it to her mid 50s. She had many suicide attempts but didnt die by her own hand, probably from all the meds for all kinds of disorders she had. She was on everything a doc could prescribe.
Its not a fun illness and I am sad for two of my kids that they have a bio aunt with those genes, praying they are spared.
I knew a girl in NYC who was affiliated with Bob Guccione who had a relationship with Brian
Man....not an easy guy to like
But yes...his Scarface however hamfisted is a classic
Life expectancy with bipolar is quite a bit shorter.
its proably one of the greatest sports movies ever, the Natural, Rudy and Hoosiers...
A beautiful young lady in her day... RIP Margot..
Best Lex Luthor Ever.
best villain’s comedic sidekick ever, Ned Beatty!
LOL True!
I hear they are trying to cast Obama as the first Black Superman, Hillary naturally would be Lois Lane.
Hey! I’m 70, and it ain’t so old as I once thought it to be. :)
Superman, the first movie I saw in a theater. I was 3.
Valerie Perine was seriously underrated too.
A close friend's son only made it to 30.....The daughter suffers from it too and she's a mess.......It's a horrible disease and unfortunately most people don't understand it
As a side note, there is a genetic history in my friend's family since his father suffered from periods of what was once just considered "depression" as did my friend.
Just saw Superman recently and it has really aged well.
I have a buddy at work who’s ex-wife is bi-polar. Trains chase her, and currently the FBI is videoing and recording her and everything my buddy does according to her. He escaped but not after the legal system tore him a new one for this witch. Within six months to a year she will be walking the streets dead broke. Sad, because when she is on her medication she is pleasant and can be a striking woman.
I took a girl to see that movie in what probably qualified as my first date.
I know Ms. Kidder has had many struggles over the years. RIP.
(note to undertaker: Be sure the underwear is pink)
