In an era where the social climate where the landscape for marginalized communities are shifting — in both good and bad ways — Benedict Cumberbatch has come forward to give his stance on a pressing issue facing Hollywood and beyond: pay equality.
Dr. Strange is attempting to work his magic and his influential platform to change the way women are paid in Hollywood. In a recent interview with Radio Times magazine, Cumberbatch said, “Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism.
Tha Avengers: Infinity War actor added, “Look at your quotas. Ask what women are being paid, and say: ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.’
The Academy Award-nominated actor isn’t just talk. His production company, SunnyMarch is practically run by women and aims to focus on more female-focused dramas.
“I’m proud that [partner] Adam [Ackland] and I are the only men in our production company; our next project is a female story with a female lens about motherhood, in a time of environmental disaster,” said Cumberbatch. “If it’s centered around my name, to get investors, then we can use that attention for a raft of female projects. Half the audience is female!”
Cumberbatch stars in Patrick Melrose which debuts tonight on Showtime.

Hollywood moves their productions out California strictly for cheaper production costs. Ridley Scott’s a-list movie about the Black Dahlia murder case still had its violent, homosexual subculture, perverse story to tell.
Most of them should definitely shut up and act. But I’m not going to hate on Benedict if he actually follows through on this pay thing. We are the ones who have been saying they should put their money where their mouth is. Well, it looks like one of them is finally going to try it. If he does this, it might set an example for the rest of them.
I know a guy who worked backstage at a burlesque house for $50 a week. It would’ve been higher but that’s all he could afford to pay.
I would hope we are past pay differentials resulting from gender. Maybe not.

But he isn’t putting HIS money where his mouth is, he is demanding that the owners of various products put their money where his mouth is...hardly the same thing.
I am saying that you should hate this person you are free to like whomever you please. I don’t find him to be much of a hero, just a publicity hog much on the order of David Hogg.
If he ends up taking a pay cut so that the production company can meet his demands and still stay within budget, yes, he’ll have put some money in. But my larger message is that we don’t want to develop Liberal Derangement Syndrome ourselves. You know how liberals hate Trump even when he does something they should presumably like? I don’t want to be that way.
IF and it is a big “IF” he takes a pay cut, but something tells me he means this as much as he meant to take in refugees and lead by example.
Once again, I do NOT hate this person and I have never suffered from LDS. However, if I were choosing someone to admire he would be last on my list.
