My 16 months older than me brother had a ‘55 Chevy. It was OK. I had a ‘55 Imperial. It was great.

Ah the flat egg crate grille of the 55 bel air.
I also like the pointy grille of the 56.
I was a high school senior in 65-66. We picked these up with straight 6s dirt cheap. Sometimes wed shoe horn something bigger in them. Mostly not. Too expensive. My friends that is. I was a Mopar Guy. Drove the same car Judd Hirsch drove in Independence Day. 62 Belvedere.

My first car was a 55 Chevy wagon. 4-door with the posts. Had a 283 V8 and a 3-speed manual. Beautiful machine.

I don’t think the 55s were particulary attractive cars. They retained some of the boxiness of older design but had to be the cleanest break in styling ever made when you look at the 54s and earlier.
A two-door sedan with door pillars was not nearly as attractive as the pillar-less ‘steel-top convertibles.’
It was the 1957 model year when things got interesting.

From "
Two Lane Blacktop," a movie from the "far-out world of the high speed lane" starring singer-songwriter James Taylor, Beach Boys drummer Dennis Wilson, Warren Oates, and Laurie Bird which featured a 1955 Chevrolet 150 two-door sedan drag racer.

From what I recall, it seemed like virtually every '55 was baby blue and white.
It's a shame that the age of two-tone cars is gone forever.

Remember the KIT Wax commercial in the ‘70s?
Kid: “It’s a ‘55, Dad; it’s a classic.”
Dad: “It’s a heap.”
I think the dad was played by Vic Tayback.

My dad was an Army recruiter back in the 50s. He told me of many trips he made in US Army issued Chevy 210 post sedans.

Nice cars. But let’s do something more unusual than ‘55/’57 Chevy BelAir, ‘65 Mustang or ‘62 Corvette.
Besides, “classic” means 1928-1942! Cool ‘30s cars.
