A COUPLE have become Britain’s oldest new parents — only to have their baby taken from them by social services.
The 63-year-old mum and her partner, 65, are “devastated” after bosses stepped in and took the child from them.
The couple’s age is thought to be a factor in fears over the one-year-old’s well-being. A source said: “They are devastated.
Social services have been dealing with them since last year and told them to make improvements in how the child was being looked after.
“They then decided that the called-for improvements had not happened and took the child into care.”
The couple from the north of England had the baby using a surrogate mother in her 30s. She is believed to have been impregnated using the 65-year-old’s sperm and a donor egg.
The adoptive parents spent more than £100,000 on the procedure and used a clinic abroad as most in the UK would not deal with a couple their age.
The child’s British birth mother and her husband were named on the birth certificate, but they signed a parental order letting the older couple adopt.
Social services closely monitored the situation and, after the concerns were raised, the child was taken away and is thought to be in foster care.
The adoptive parents have failed in one bid to regain custody but are still fighting. They are thought to be allo-wed some contact in monitored visits.
The source said: “This is a very unusual situation. Although it is upsetting for all, social workers have done what they think is best for the child.”
The adoptive mother refused to comment, as did the couple’s local council.
Yes, but they did it and the child is born. I don’t think this is a good idea, but we’re talking about a fait accompli.
Supposing this was a child whose parents had died or (as in many cases) ended up in jail or were for some other reason unable to care for him and the child was given to the grandparents. This is not an uncommon situation.
Why should the state allow older parents in the case of a grandchild or other relative but not in the case of a child (however conceived)?
I think the state just didn’t like the parents because they were obviously well-off and they went outside of the system to have the child.
The picture with the article shows an elderly couple with a child. It is a STOCK photo. Given the use of the term ‘partner’ in the article, I’m thinking two women ‘had’ this child.

My parents had seven children. Guess how much time they spent with each of us?
By this logic, children should never be allowed to stay with their grandparents.
No.... i was the baby by alot- my oldest sis was 20 when i was born. I got too much attention, believe me.

I had to take care of everyone who was born after me. I can’t tell you how many diapers I have changed. :) My older sister was born when my mother was 21.
My mother was overwhelmed. I took care of my youngest sister for the first year of her life. Being young isn’t necessarily a big advantage. Everyone is different.
This is a government that will put Christian kids in Muslim foster homes hostile to the faith and not fluent in the language.
How old are you? Most people I know who’ve taken care of themselves are in fine shape past age 75. It doesn’t seem the percentage of Seniors faltering before that is as high as the percentage of the SnowFlake generation that is impacted by the drug epidemic.

true. I was an aunt at 10. i can also wrap a diaper in no time flat. I was a mom at 21 too.
My friend who is raising her great-grandchild, comes from a mother who lived to the age of 94. She’s in the shape of someone 20+ years (at least) younger than her age. We’re all different.
Sadly, the people in the UK are subjects, not citizens. Their health service may have worked well right after WWII, but now it’s pure socialism. They get to decide who lives and dies.
So she raised her own Child who wasn’t able to care for the grandchildren. Now she’s raising the children of her grandchildren. It sounds like she’s not a wry good parent
When I was about 13, my best friend had a dad who was 87 and a mother in her 50’s. It was all natural. The dad died of natural causes a few years later. I remember this so well because I was able to do things with my dad that he couldn’t with his dad due to age.
Yeah my brother still lives there as well. I grew up in Bayside Queens, then Woodside which BTW is now completely overrun by illegals. If you walk up Roosevelt ave now underneath the 7 train, I would bet anyone they wouldn’t be able to find one single solitary person there that was born in the USA or who is in the country legally. Woodside now is like the ground zero for illegals, it really ticks me off. Matter of fact a few years ago the NY Post did an expose on how illegals get fraudulent IDs on Roosevelt avenue and go down to the welfare office to get welfare and food stamps, I wish I saved that. I use to go to work everyday and bypass the Welfare office on Northern blvd in Astoria and just see a huge line of them every morning and then I would see my paycheck eaten alive by taxes. There is not enough money in this universe to ever get me to live there again. That’s funny you are from Flushing, I worked at Flushing hospital for most of the 1980s. It’s all Asian now

I know there are lots of grandparents who raise their grandchildren, but in most cases that is not ideal.
I think the overall health of 70 year olds can vary significantly from person to perrson. There is a reason that women’s bodies are designed not to reproduce after a certain age.

That’s such a shame to hear about Woodside. It’s really infuriating that the illegals get welfare and food stamps while taxpayers have to foot the bill. Yeah the last time I was in Flushing, I noticed how many Asians were living there and that was a number of years ago.
