A COUPLE have become Britains oldest new parents only to have their baby taken from them by social services.
The 63-year-old mum and her partner, 65, are devastated after bosses stepped in and took the child from them.
The couples age is thought to be a factor in fears over the one-year-olds well-being. A source said: They are devastated.
Social services have been dealing with them since last year and told them to make improvements in how the child was being looked after.
They then decided that the called-for improvements had not happened and took the child into care.
The couple from the north of England had the baby using a surrogate mother in her 30s. She is believed to have been impregnated using the 65-year-olds sperm and a donor egg.
The adoptive parents spent more than £100,000 on the procedure and used a clinic abroad as most in the UK would not deal with a couple their age.
The childs British birth mother and her husband were named on the birth certificate, but they signed a parental order letting the older couple adopt.
Social services closely monitored the situation and, after the concerns were raised, the child was taken away and is thought to be in foster care.
The adoptive parents have failed in one bid to regain custody but are still fighting. They are thought to be allo-wed some contact in monitored visits.
The source said: This is a very unusual situation. Although it is upsetting for all, social workers have done what they think is best for the child.
The adoptive mother refused to comment, as did the couples local council.
Buying and selling children is wrong, even if the government is also a can of worms.
“Social services have been dealing with them since last year and told them to make improvements in how the child was being looked after.
They then decided that the called-for improvements had not happened and took the child into care.”
I would want to know what the improvements were that were required before I jump on any bandwagon of government overreach.
If they were reasonable and the couple did not address them, then the outcome, like it or not, is probably a good one.
Agreed, need more facts, hard to say.
There’s always tension when it comes to Child welfare agencies whether they are really acting in the best interest of the child, or the interest of the agency, or imposing religious/political beliefs that shouldn’t be part of the analysis.
I bet HHS goes missing when the problem is Muslim parents.
What improvements were they wanting the parents to do? More transgender training? for a 1 year old? Perhaps they were told not to attend Church.
When it comes to present day UK, I lean in a very strong way toward overreach.
Not a whole lot of information as to why the child was taken away. Will with hold judgment for now.
I’m in my early 70s. I know many people in their 60s and 70s who are far more capable of raising children than are many members of the snowflake generation.
These parents should have converted to Islam...no touching them then.
You see first they take away your guns
I bet they don't touch it with a ten foot pole. Jolly well don't want to be accused of racism, now do they?
Ill start off in saying that I disagree morally with surrogate motherhood.
Given that, 63 and 65 are hardly the age of enfeeblement today. Many if not most people of that age are quite spry.
People of that age are more likely to have the time to spend on raising a child and more disposable income to spend raising a child. The article notes that the couple spent more than £100,000 on the procedure. So I would wager that they have ample funds to ensure the child has every advantage that money can provide.
So that article omits any indication of what the bosses considered unacceptable conditions of care for the child.
Given the number of naturally conceived children that are being raised by grandparents in poverty in this country I can not conceive of what would be considered unacceptable conditions by this couple.
My guess is that this is a high profile case that the bosses simply could not keep their little nit pickers off of.
Ditto
there is a reason why women cant have kids later in life and that is because if you are to old you most likely will not be alive when they become adults and if you are still around it is some one else taking care of the child as it approaches adulthood. having children is a young adults job. I find when ever I hear about older couples going to an extreme to have a baby that it is a very selfish act....I myself love kids and at 52 I wish I had gotten married when I was younger. at 52 I don’t think it is fair unless I was married to some one 20 years younger then me. and even then I would be hesitant about creating the situation though if it happen as an accident with my younger wife that child would be a blessing and I would do my best to raise it. that said at 52 I find my task is to be supportive of those younger then me that have children. I love teasing hew fathers about keeping shotgun ready for when there baby daughter begins to be interested in boys or complimenting a young mother how cute her little boy is. nothing makes these parents more happy then to have some one older give them a complement about there children. the younger the parent the more they crave this.
normally I hate the idea of the state stepping in and not knowing the details I am hesitant to say that it was th right thing to do but this couple having a child is very problematic in my eyes.
They were unable to make themselves younger.
Many grandparents in their 70’s are basically raising their grandchildren.
I’m 63 and extremely healthy and in good shape. I would rather see a today’s 63 year old raising a baby than some of the Tide Pod eating millennials of today. How many grandparents are raising their grandchildren? Lots!
I would be interested in knowing what politics they support. England reminds me a lot of New York city. They elect a hardcore blatant commie as Mayor then constantly complain about him his entire term and then when he was up for reelection, what did they do? Reelected him. Some people just choose to make their life hell which is why I moved from there 7 years ago.
“Now Abraham and Sarah were old and well stricken in age...”
“—normally I hate the idea of the state stepping in and not knowing the details I am hesitant to say that it was th right thing to do but this couple having a child is very problematic in my eyes.”
How would you feel then?
