I was recently asked to commit to a series of management seminars for new supervisors. When I went on a quest to research current trends in management I can across this TEDx talk by Jocko Willink a former Navy SEAL.
Wiki:
"John Gretton Willink (born September 8, 1971)[1] is an American podcaster, author, and retired United States Navy SEAL. He received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his service in the Iraq War.[2] Willink was commander of SEAL Team Three's Task Unit Bruiser during the Battle of Ramadi. Jocko graduated from the University of San Diego in 2003 with a bachelors in English. Together with fellow former SEAL Leif Babin, Willink wrote the book Extreme Ownership and founded the consulting firm Echelon Front. Willink hosts a weekly podcast with friend and Brazilian jiu jitsu practitioner Echo Charles, called the Jocko Podcast."
This guy is the real deal. I highly recommend this talk for new supervisors and even silver backs could learn something, I did.
Extreme Ownership is an excellent read. Highly recommended.
couldn’t finish it. did not like is the flipping back and forth of the narrative and application. I would have preferred to stay with a single narrative. I think there is an accompanying podcast as well.
This is a great video.
Imagine if everyone took responsibility.
It’s the opposite of victimhood.
The US would be a very different place.
Jocko is a great guy.
