US ambassador said Donald Trump's abrasive style came from Scottish heritage Woody Johnson said Trump 'speaks in very clear and unusual way' for a politician The US president is due to come to Britain for talks with Theresa May on July 13 Critics have vowed a 'carnival of protests' on the streets when he visits the UK
Donald Trump rubs people up the wrong way because he is so Scottish, the US ambassador suggested today.
Woody Johnson said the US president's 'tough and argumentative' streak came from his heritage in Scotland.
The claim came as Mr Johnson shrugged off the prospect of mass protests against Mr Trump when he visits the UK on July 13.
The trip was finally confirmed last night after months of wrangling between Downing Street and the White House.
Officials were thought to have been looking at whether to stage some or all of visit away from London to avoid it being marred by demonstrations.
There has been speculation Mr Trump might hold talks with Theresa May at her Chequers country retreat, and meet the Queen or other royals in either Scotland or Windsor although it will not be a state visit.

Looks interesting. I guess fighting with England for so many years turned them a bit aggressive. :)
I can believe that.
I've read that the songs, the musical instruments, and the manner of speaking all show indications of being derived from Scots/Irish people.
The highlanders being cold all the time and living in mud huts with grass roofs and nothing but mutton and oatmeal to eat didn't help much, either. But they developed a game of hitting rocks with sticks, and now it's played all over the world for big money (golf).
Look up the Highland Clearances on Wikipedia, when the elites of the educated southern Scots near the border of England burned the highland Scots peasants out of their huts to make them migrate south, live in squalid tenements and work in factories near the ports of Glasgow and Edinburgh to support the Industrial Revolution. It's sort of like our corporations today hiring H1b's or encouraging illegal immigration.
I'm thinking this low cost labor thing has had a lot of influence on a lot of conflicts, the Civil War being no exception.
That’s all true. Even my grandfather called mountain people highlanders and people that lived in the valleys lowlanders or flatlanders.
I’m Scottish and I really resent that kind of racist bull shit remark. If your Scottish then you are by nature an abrasive person. who does this bigot think he is that he can insult an entire nation of people because of his bigotry???
Where is the hue and cry for my civil liberties to be protected from that kind of speech. Change Scottish to some other group and see what happens.
Asshole! I hope Scotland shoves this comment up hi.
I have to tell you. For four straight years I was ranked, worldwide, in the top twenty five players of Xbox Tiger Woods golfers. I have played in Xbox tournaments with French, British, Canadian, Australian, South African, Scottish and German players, etc, many i consider good friends. The most abrasive, nastiest gamers, in a non abrasive Xbox game, were by far and away, the Scotts. The were cheaters, vulgar, and beyond redemption.
Yep; it’s all economics. That’s why Trump’s approach to urban disordera stronger economy with more jobs so everyone including blacks can afford to live regular lives and take care of their childrenis the better way than the Democrats’ usual “soak the rich to give the blacks a fish” approach.
People need purpose in their lives, and they need hope for the future. Put everyone to work, and many other problems will take care of themselves.
I think Trump is on the path to becoming one of our greatest Presidents, and we shall all be able to count ourselves lucky that we were there when it happened.
