Chinese whispers suggest a big Patch Tuesday download
Windows 10 Springwatch is headed for a fourth week, with the troubled update rumoured to have a name and possibly a release date.
Having been pulled at the last minute due to "reliability issues" causing an unusually high number of Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) errors, the update has gone missing in action.
A week after Windows fans expected to get their new toys, Microsoft emitted an updated version with an incremented build number 17134. This made its way through the Windows Insider Programme, hitting the Release Preview Ring on 20 April.
Whether this really is the final build remains to be seen. However, Windows Insiders did report some clues hinting at a name for the update. Opening the Edge browser showed a startup page saying: "Welcome to the April update."
So Creators need not apply, assuming the name sticks.
As for a date, May looks likely. Reports of a memo sent to Chinese resellers point to a 9 May release, which would fit well if the update was pushed out as part of Patch Tuesday on 8 May.

The Register contacted Microsoft for comment and was told: "We do not have any information at the moment but we'll keep you updated in case that changes."
The Springwatch goes on. ®

The first of the last 2 updates, my secondary drive is not recognized, the last update caused my mouse to freeze. I can’t handle any more updates with those odds!
I would never knowingly let Windows get behind me. If I met it coming down the street, I’d cross over to the other side. It’s bad news, man.
This month has been a nightmare for WSUS admins!!! I have about 1000 endpoints running Win 7 and Win 10. First the Meltdown/Spectre debacle and now this. I’ve had to rollback, reinstate several of the same KBs!!
Hasn’t been this bad since well, 10 years ago!!
I have reversed to allow Win 10 updates since last fall.
You can stop them by setting your Internet connection to “metered”. Windows assumes you are paying for your Internet access in rates per minute/hour and knowing the update can take a while stops and asks if it can go ahead. You just also say no and no more updates.
I didn’t after an update last fall messed up programs that had worked fine before that update. Then I found the “metered” trick and cut the updates off. That was after I backed out that last update.
I go on the theory that if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.
I have searched and searched, and cannot find the option to refuse windows 10 updates.
Every time the update runs, my laptop shuts down and when I restart it, the program reverts to the previous version. It’s getting quite annoying, as I have to physically shut the ‘puter off and disconnect the wi-fi to prevent the download (and what a resource hog THAT is!) from automatically occurring.
I deeply regret allowing win10 into the laptop.
I’ve always been frustrated that, no matter what I do, my two Windows 10 devices (phone and Surface) will not sync. Finally I contacted Windows support who suggested resetting Edge on the Surface. “We’ve saved your favorites”, they said. Fine. After the reset I lost probably 90% of my favorites, including all but seven of the over 90 favorites for one project. And the two devices still won’t sync anything to do with Edge.
I should add the favorites on both devices were destroyed. So it did sync once just long enough to ruin everything.
It’s actually in your “network” settings.
It tells the system your Internet connection is “metered”, as if you pay by the minute/hour. It does not matter or know if that is true or not. You can set it to metered regardless. With your networking connection set to “metered” Windows feels obligated to ask if the Win 10 update can run, before it can run. Once set that way, the Win 10 update assistant will pop up and require your consent to proceed.
Try this source. If it is not clear, let me know.
Geez, that really sucks. Sorry to hear that.
Microsoft is giving up on Windows 10 and will update all the Apple OS.
Not far off. Nadella dissolved the Windows Division earlier this month and the head of the division was let go. Windows is not dead, obviously, but its reached the end of its run. Probably will be gone in 5 years, and remaining installations will be on life support for another 5.
Thank you. Few people can even understand what kind of loss that is.
