[side note - looking out back, the squirrels have been busy, it seems, as there are a few very small squirrels roaming around in the yard this spring]
I did not see a single squirrel at our bird feeders this past winter. We live in a wooded area, and usually there were more squirrels than birds gouging themselves on seeds.

No surprise....they're ALL spent the winter at my house! I even have mallards coming! I live in a busy sub-division.
