Ok I did something unknown and unreproducible on my XP machine. The taskbar which is at the bottom and held my start button on the left, my quick launches right next to it, and various icons on the right hand side has suddenly zoomed to be twice as big as it was, vertically. Does anyone know how to reduce it back to a single line and still have the quick launch items on it?
Microsoft Support Hotline:
MS: Hello! How can I assist you today (indian accent).
YOU: I am having a problem with Windows XP today.
MS: Thank you. We no longer support Windows XP.
YOU: Yes, but I bought it from you. Is there anything you can do to help.
MS: Thank you. I can list your problem relating to a newer version.
YOU: [relieved] Thanks!
MS: I see you are from Georgia... hmmm. Are you a [long pause] Braves fan??
YOU: No.
MS: Thank you. Please allow me to help with your problem.
YOU: OK, my screen is messed up.
MS: Pages rattling in the background. I see. Do you have your data backed up?
YOU: Yes, why??
MS: We must reinstall Windows.
YOU: Why do we have to reinstall windows??
MS: Well, you haven’t reinstalled in a long time, have you?
YOU: Of course not! Can’t you just fix it? I don’t to take a day off work to reinstall drivers!
MS: Doubtful. It is best to do a complete reinstall...
[Screaming will come later.]
Outlook express may be named that, or it may be named Microsoft Mail - I'm not sure if the re-name was applied to XP or not.
As someone mentioned, make sure "Use Small Icons" is checked on the bar. For Windows Explorer, hit the Microsoft key on your keyboard - it should be between the Ctrl and the Alt keys at the bottom left. That should let you find your programs such as mail and IE, or whatever you are using as an internet browser.
Then you don’t need the stipend and should forward it to me.
Though you did seem a bit sweaty and tense until I fixed your p.c. for you.
Might want to check with a doc first!
Hey, I have recruiters calling me each and every day, sometimes I’ve actually had the same one calling me multiple times a day...
And they ALL, EACH AND EVERY ONE, have an Indian accent!
So I either don’t answer the phone or tell em I’m working...
(I am a mainframe Systems Programmer)
The Windows button on the keyboard just opens up the Start menu.
I used RUN/BROWSE to find the items I was looking for, of course once you have easy access to Explorer, then you have access to everything else.
How about doing a Restore?
Don’t have to. It’s fixed.
A much more cogent instruction than my “drag your cursor around erratically on the right side from top to bottom until you screw up and hit it just right and it flips back but you are never sure how. :-)
Wow!!!! No snide remarks about still using XP. Very good FR. I also still use XP. I just can’t see throwing away all I know about Windows. :<))))))
I have a BUNCH of computers. The latest I have is Windows 7 on a couple laptops and a desktop. Most of them are dual boot with XP/Me on them.
XP was the best windows had to offer. Everything later than XP is just entertainment, not computing...
