Beau gets inspired and does some weed whackin’ from time to time.
This year he’s giving me a (small!) ‘flame thrower’ for weed control between my raised beds.
That’s either going to be a lot of fun or BIG trouble, LOL!
LOL, that sounds insane! I never heard of using fire for weed control in a garden. Please DO let us know how it goes.
Oh, you have have one lucky mule! Dare I say he sounds spoiled? But that’s not a bad thing - like I say when people say my yorkie is spoiled - HE DESERVES IT!!!

I have not practiced crop rotation. Good idea. I have thought about getting big tubs from my brother who raises beef. They are perfect size for tomatoes. I have a small lot in the suburbs bit getting out of there soon
Need me some room for large garden and try to improve position in feeding myself. Wouldn’t mind having a head or two of beef

I’ve always wanted a Yorkie and as I get older, my dogs will NEED to be smaller. Being owned by a Yorkie has always been on my list. My MIL had a Yorkie/Chihuahua mix. Lily. Smartest. Dog. Ever. You couldn’t pull anything over on her and Moya had Lily trained to perform a whole series of tricks to receive her dog biscuit. :)

he always has to greet us at the door with something. He is so very generous! One day he couldn’t find any toys but he did get up on a chair that had paraphernalia from when I went to a Trump rally.
I wasn’t a dog person until we got him. Now I can’t even leave the house without him or I feel incredibly guilty. He has this way of looking at me and hanging his head down as soon as he realize he has to stay home. He goes over to his little cushion and just stands there looking dejected. I Can’t believe how manipulative he is, lol! Anyway I told my husband we didn’t need a dog. They were dirty, messy, smelly, etc. We had him three days and I called my husband at work and told him he needed to get his own dog, Cooper was mine. We were to do to go on her relocation trip, looking for places to move to. I just couldn’t put him in puppy jail. I interviewed about five of them and none were acceptable. So I drove 5000 miles so he could go with us! We drove from California to Nashville, picked hubby up at the airport, then checked out West Virginia, Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. Then he got to go back on the airplane and we drove home. I could’ve taken him on the plane, but it actually gave me a good opportunity to go the long way home and check out other places. I ended up going through Idaho and it was beautiful. He’s a great little traveler. I found this dog purse, it looks like a big normal person, except you can fit a dog in it, and it has mesh sides so he can breathe. For those potty stops when I didn’t want to leave him in the car.
Watch out, or a yorkie could change your life in very unexpected ways :-)
Beef is good. My sister used to raise rabbits-she had 5 kids and low income. Didn’t take much space.
We don’t have much space, so if we were going to have animal protein, we’d likely have chickens-for eggs and meat-maybe a goat for milk.
You can buy the chicks in the spring and slaughter in the fall. Freeze or can. We don’t really have the space for a cow or a steer. Don’t think I could deal with killing rabbits, too much like a pet.
One of the restaurants we went to when I was a kid, had fried rabbit-tasted a bit like chicken.
I have the same problem with our apricots and apples: plenty of flowers, few pollinators.
And thanks for mentioning the oaks; it reminded me I have to check my peach pits.
Was (barely) dry enough to walk into the garden this afternoon. Some of my Fall planted garlic is sprouting...and there’s a volunteer that got missed in last year’s harvest.
We’ve been fighting bindweed for years. Combination of whack-a-mole and Kleenex: another one always pops up. I’ve gotten to the point where I can distinguish between a new seedling and a new tendril from a root node.
Any time I break new ground for any reason, it suddenly is there. The seeds can survive in the soil for up to 50 years, and still sprout when brought to the surface.

It is raining today. My outdoor walking was in the Greenhouse. Nice to watch and listen to rain. I walked out yesterday, and uncovered the strawberries, some had blooms, I haven’t seen any bees yet though, so I don’t know how that’s going to work.
Greetings to all from western PA. We had what we hoped was our last gasp of wet, rainy light snow on Thursday and the weekend temps have risen to 57 degree daytime, so everyone is cutting their lawns. I went to a free Home and Garden Show yesterday with 100 local retailers and got a lot of freebies - packets of free seeds, a big bucket which I can use in gardening, a free ten dollar gift card for Sears to use for home improvements. I liked that one.
How did you start/sprout the acorns? We came home from Texas with some pin oak acorns - really small, and a super large acorn, have not tried to identify it.

Joe Bastardi is the “King” of weather. I always considered what he said when I was planning when to start seed under a grow lamp inside and when to plant.

Hi Marcella, Johnny is not forgotten. We came back last week from 9 days in Texas, our first time there. It was a jam packed trip and in case we had time I brought a small baggie of our garden dirt with me and directions to Johnny’s grave at the national cemetery in Dallas. Unfortunately we were not able to get there. But I guess it’s the thought that counts. Many on FR remember him.
