Two men with handguns entered a Waffle House in the 2900 block of Elysian Fields Avenue around 10:13 p.m. Thursday. One of the men jumped the counter and demanded money and cellphones. As the two men were fleeing, a customer pulled out a gun and shot at the robbers, according to the New Orleans Police Department's major offense log sent Friday morning.

This is surprising. Usually the shootings and fights in Waffle Houses between customers and workers, workers and workers, customers and robbers don’t happen until between 1 and 5 AM. Waffle House stories are almost as good as People of Walmart pictures.
Between 1 am and 5 am Waffle House can get pretty busy. Maybe they thought the risk factor was lower at 10pm. Thought wrong.
