Waffle House customer shot at fleeing robbers on Elysian Fields: NOPD

Two men with handguns entered a Waffle House in the 2900 block of Elysian Fields Avenue around 10:13 p.m. Thursday. One of the men jumped the counter and demanded money and cellphones. As the two men were fleeing, a customer pulled out a gun and shot at the robbers, according to the New Orleans Police Department's major offense log sent Friday morning.

He got one well enough that the suspect showed up later at a hospital to seek medical attention. No word about charges against the customer but I doubt it will happen. Folks and the LEO's here don't like criminals

I grew up on Elysian Fields in the 60's-don't recall any crime. By the 70's it was getting bad. Now it's a crime ridden ghetto on the edge of the Marigny, which is a hunting ground for ferals. The West Coast/Seattle types moved in, painted houses and pretend that it's the new, funky San Francisco. They are getting carjacked and robbed daily. The blacks in N.O. really resent the 'gentrification' of their turf. The denial of reality has businesses open 24 hrs-usually with a lone(female) employee.Prime targets!

I don't know how much crime it's going to take before businesses(constantly robbed) and residents(constantly victimized) just get the hell out and let N.O.die.

A “person of interest” later arrived at the hospital via private car, police said. The nature of that person’s injury was not immediately known, but police emphasized that he had not been charged as of Friday morning.

I lived there till the early 70’s, moved to Jefferson parish then back to Lakeview for 20 years before moving to Jefferson parish permanently. Haven’t been over the Orleans parish line since Katrina. No reason to. Nothing there I haven’t seen before and nothing worth my life.
