FULL TITLE: TOT'S BATTLE Who is Alfie Evans, what do we know about his mystery illness and who are his parents Tom Evans and Kate James?
The toddler's parents have been engaged in a passionate battle to keep their boy alive
ALFIE Evans has been at the centre of a life support battle between his parents, health officials and the British justice system for several months.
Courts have ruled the boy's machine should be switched off, but his parents - and the Pope - have passionately disagreed. Here's what you need to know about the heartbreaking case.
Who is Alfie Evans?
Alfie Evans has been living in a coma for well over a year after being struck down with a mystery illness.
The 23-month-old was born perfectly healthy but in his first seven months missed numerous developmental milestones, his family said.
He started making "jerking, seizure-like movements" and was taken to the doctors, but his parents were told he was "lazy and a late developer", the family claim.
But he caught a chest infection that caused seizures and was placed on life support at Alder Hey Children's Hospital in Liverpool in December 2016.

I’ve been looking for an article that got me the core information on this. I only first heard about it today.
Then I caught this line early in the OP: “...and the British justice system...”.
So, it’s not in the U.S. Which changes my take on the whole thing.
No see if they brought the kid to the USA he might just live and that would make the English Hospitals look bad and we can’t have that now can we?
Exactly.
You gotta come here “on vacation”.
It’s almost a modern equivalent of the Berlin wall.
What is so disturbing about stories like this is that the parents, who have natural authority from God to make decisions about their childrens’ health and education, routinely get their rights trampled upon by statists who think the government is God.
Why shouldn’t this suffering couple be allowed to treat their child, who will die without any intervention, with alternative experimental treatments?
Your post brings up a question I have. Are the parents of Alfie Evans expecting the NHS to pay for their sons continuing treatment, or is the treatment free from the Italian hospital they wish to send him to? Does anyone know?
The NHS has decided that it is in the best interest of the child to die.
That’s truly frightening. Thanks for the info.
Like any good totalitarian system, no one gets to leave.
