According to NBC News, the four areas of potential obstruction...

How can there be obstruction when there is no underlying crime?

...include the firing of former FBI Director James Comey,

It's not obstruction when the President executes his plenary Constitutional powers.

...Trump’s role in drafting a misleading statement about the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting,

Wasn't that meeting staged by Fusion GPS to entrap Trump?

...Trump’s role in pressuring Attorney General Jeff Sessions not to recuse himself from the Russia probe,

How is it obstruction for the President to advise his subordinate? Wouldn't this be executive privilege?

...and the dangling of pardons to grand jury witnesses.

Again, this is a President considering executing his plenary power. Pardons are, by definition, overriding "justice." Did anybody call it obstruction when Bill Clinton pardoned Marc Rich, who fled the United States to avoid prosecution?

Sure — to the believers it exonerates him. It’s a bunch of nothing. But I suspect its enough that dems and many RINOs will call for impeachment. Heck — dems are already calling for impeachment. The question is how many RINOs will climb on board.

There are two political realities. The reality that prevails depends on who has the most votes.

Not quite sure what you meant by either response.

Your comment makes me wonder if you thought I was one of those who stayed home.

I was not.

You sound almost like you are defending globalism.

I’m probably just not understanding your intent.

If he has actual proof of “dangling pardons” (which I seriously doubt) he might have something. The rest is a bunch of cotton candy. Meaningless fluff.

No not you personally - just all the talk here on FR that is absolutely idiotic about not voting in the 2018 elections due to some personal issue with the sitting GOP.

Globalism isn’t going to happen if they vote, but absolute and permanent rule by the wackos that run the Democrat party will end the DJT Presidency and the 1 & 2 Amendments if they do not. The stakes are very high.

Agree on all counts.

I’m sick of all the people yapping about staying home.

I know a couple of people who actually want Trump impeached so they can put Pence in there because they’ve been mesmerized by the mockingbird media. They did get out there and vote for Trump though.

They’re older than me and set in their ways.

I would send the occasional article laying things out for them but like a lot of older people they still have faith in the news and talk radio.

I decided the talk radio people are just another bunch of hacks with no integrity. IMO, the only reason they started having any truly civil and honest discussion about Trump was because their ratings probably plummeted.

But back to my friends. After a certain point, I had to just give up. At least they can be civil even if they don’t agree with me.

The people on the left who are screaming for impeachment are going to do it no matter who is there just because their candidate didn’t win. They’re getting to be like the sports fans who burn down their own neighborhood s when their team loses. They just look senseless.

Like him or not, Trump is getting things done.

All the people saying we’re all going to die are just being ridiculous.

We survived 8 years of the usurper who is still usurping all over the world. If that doesn’t kill us, President Trump won’t either.

I do have major issues with much of the GOP-not because they are GOP but because they are aiding and abetting the enemy-but I’m sure as heck not going to stay home and pout and make it even easier for the corrupt people on both sides to stay in power.

Sometimes I think why bother but nevertheless always get my butt down to my polling place.

We have enough people nullifying our votes.

It’s stupid to willingly nullify ones own vote by staying home.

We should be relishing our right to vote every chance we get because if we don’t we may lose that right.

Those older folks must be truly ancient. I’m way over 70 by a bit.

Not that old. Mid to late 70’s.

Around my mom’s age. I’ll be 54 this year so to them I’m probably just a snot nosed kid

I still have to talk mom down regularly but at least she’ll listen and stop worrying about every little thing she hears on the news for a little while.

She’s not really believing it all but their tone gets the FUD rolling if some people listen too long.

I quit watching. The only reason I watched before was to see what kind of crap they were trying to sell us but why should I give them viewing credit when I can find out here?

That is the MOST ACCURATE description of what happened here EVER written. Thank you for putting it so succinctly.

The way the public views it is VERY important, because impeachment is a big risk; it usually backfires on the impeachers.

This is exactly what happened with Bill Clinton.

In this instance, the case for impeachment is not only extremely weak - but it sounds weak! In fact, it sounds like they are accusing him of defending himself.

The public isn’t going to care that Trump tried to defend himself. They ARE going to care that an entire year of Trump’s presidency and a ton of money has been wasted unfairly tormenting a duly elected POTUS.

My prediction is that only the loony Dems like Waters will continue ranting about impeachment - the rest will move on and focus on issues.

It will not be smooth sailing for Trump’s agenda though - the left and RINOs will still block conservative nominees, deregulation and border security. They may even be tougher without the distraction of their impeachment fantasies.

Yep — what you say is how I have viewed impeachment in the past and it’s a more traditional view of how impeachments are viewed wrt the public. Impeachment has always been this serious sober thing worthy of mucho consideration etc etc

However things have changed a lot since the Bill Clinton days. The dems don’t need much of a reason to impeach and will go full bore especially if they take the House. The only question is how many RINOs support them. Trump has a lot of enemies in DC and is quite isolated as just about everyone in DC hates his guts. Bill Clinton had lots of support.

So it is a much different situation now. Bottom line — nothing happens unless dems take the House and if that happens all bets are off. We’ll see.

The only area where I disagree is that impeachment rhetoric could actually hurt the Dems chances in the midterms.

If the public perception shifts a bit toward the view that it’s a witch hunt, the Dems will have to put a cork in it or risk a voter backlash.

So subtle changes in public perception are important.
