The way the public views it is VERY important, because impeachment is a big risk; it usually backfires on the impeachers.

This is exactly what happened with Bill Clinton.

In this instance, the case for impeachment is not only extremely weak - but it sounds weak! In fact, it sounds like they are accusing him of defending himself.

The public isn’t going to care that Trump tried to defend himself. They ARE going to care that an entire year of Trump’s presidency and a ton of money has been wasted unfairly tormenting a duly elected POTUS.

My prediction is that only the loony Dems like Waters will continue ranting about impeachment - the rest will move on and focus on issues.

It will not be smooth sailing for Trump’s agenda though - the left and RINOs will still block conservative nominees, deregulation and border security. They may even be tougher without the distraction of their impeachment fantasies.

Yep — what you say is how I have viewed impeachment in the past and it’s a more traditional view of how impeachments are viewed wrt the public. Impeachment has always been this serious sober thing worthy of mucho consideration etc etc

However things have changed a lot since the Bill Clinton days. The dems don’t need much of a reason to impeach and will go full bore especially if they take the House. The only question is how many RINOs support them. Trump has a lot of enemies in DC and is quite isolated as just about everyone in DC hates his guts. Bill Clinton had lots of support.

So it is a much different situation now. Bottom line — nothing happens unless dems take the House and if that happens all bets are off. We’ll see.
