I bought a portable charcoal grill and have yet to use it. Amazon used to sell it. They called it the Volcano Grills 3-Fuel Portable Camping Stove/ Fire Pit.

I don't want to set it on the ground as I tend to it. Fun at campsite, but I want to give my squatting muscles a rest. So I was wondering what kind of table I should set it on.
I have a Cabela camp kitchen, but the surface is melamine and they show a propane stove in the picture.
I have used hibachis at parks and the picnic tables are wood, and have had no problem.
But now that we have sold the house with the built in brick gas barbecue grill/ gas stove, I want to use this I have in my prepper kit.
I need to buy something to set it upon that will be safe. Any suggestions?
2-4 square concrete stepping stones from the landscape section at Home Depot or Lowes might be an idea. Or some 1 tiles from the tile section.
I got tired of cooking on the ground with my Dutch Ovens so I bought this...
I can put the charcoal right on the table and bake to my heart’s content.
Preferably someone elses wooden picnic table...
;-)
Use a pizza pan and turn it upside down to supply an air gap.
Spatters, grease, dirt, spills, burns and heat marks = Somethinig wood and throw-away after two seasons.
How about putting down aluminum foil to reflect heat? Also would collect splatters, grease, etc. just fyi, I keep a small grill, about 18 dia, in my travel trailer for use when camping either just me or my wife. And, I just set it on wood picnic tables with no problems. Unless the bottom of your cooker is actually making contact with table surface Im guessing all will be ok.
I’d go with one I didn’t care about. Just sain.
We’ve used a small charcoal grill camping, and bought a nice folding aluminum camp table.
It works great and is fire resistant.
I used to put my small charcoal grill on a wood picnic table with a layer of tin foil under the grill.
How about a large AirBake cookie sheet on a few bricks or thin pavers (on the campsite table)? They’re cheap and lightweight. 16x14” and 20x15.5”.
Ever heard of Google?

Heat goes up the only heat going down will be the radiant heat conducted from the upper section of the grill. I cook on a card board sheet so it is easily disposed of.
That said common sense has a fire extinguisher near by in case some one were to tip the grill.
Best food is cooked low and slow.
The fire point of card board is 496° The ignition temp is over 800°
Lots of nice ideas...
If you are thinking utilitarian then a piece of scrap 3/4” plywood would work. Or a small footprint of bricks on a table. Give it a test, monitor the heat underneath, and go from there.
