Fleetwood Mac has fired Lindsey Buckingham after a disagreement over the band's upcoming tour, Rolling Stone has confirmed. The band announced Monday that Mike Campbell of Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers and Neil Finn of Crowded House will replace him.
News of Buckingham's departure initially broke when former Fleetwood Mac guitarist Billy Burnette shared an April 4th tweet that has since been deleted, saying: "Breaking news: Lindsey Buckingham is out but I'm not in." Rolling Stone has confirmed Buckingham's departure, though no specific tour dates have been announced.
Fleetwood Mac issued a collective statement about the news, saying: "We are thrilled to welcome the musical talents of the caliber of Mike Campbell and Neil Finn into the Mac family. With Mike and Neil, well be performing all the hits that the fans love, plus well be surprising our audiences with some tracks from our historic catalogue of songs. Fleetwood Mac has always been a creative evolution. We look forward to honoring that spirit on this upcoming tour."
Mick Fleetwood added, "Fleetwood Mac has always been about an amazing collection of songs that are performed with a unique blend of talents ... We jammed with Mike and Neil and the chemistry really worked and let the band realize that this is the right combination to go forward with in Fleetwood Mac style. We know we have something new, yet its got the unmistakable Mac sound."
Buckingham joined Fleetwood Mac in 1974 along with Stevie Nicks. He wrote and sang many of their most memorable songs, including "Go Your Own Way," "Tusk" and "Second Hand News." He left in 1987 shortly before the Tango On The Night tour (where he was replaced by Billy Burnette) and rejoined in 1996 for The Dance reunion tour.

On Priest Live, Halford hits some insanely high notes on Green Manalishi which really set that song apart.
The last band I was associated with had this curious habit of hosting a “last lunch” for members they were abut to jettison. They would get together for lunch and beers and afterward fire the guy.
I attended two of them. I was taken aback at how crass and awkward this was - if you’re gonna let somebody go then you owe it to him to tell it to his face.
And then the day came when they invited me to lunch. I told them I had better things to do and walked away.
“So this is THE day Bob Welch was waiting for”
If he hadn’t killed himself in 2012 he probably could have used the gig.

Rumours was great. I also loved Lindsey & Stevie performing “Landslide.”
I was at a USC Homecoming game when they did Tusk.
Doesn’t USE2B Great Britain have laws against firing pensioners?
Loving him isn’t the right thing to do......
p.s. Yesterday’s gone, yesterday’s gone....
Saw a comment at another site:
Fleetwood Mac fired Fleetwood Mac
My decade was that one between the sixties and the eighties, the one which I cannot remember. There was reportedly an alleged F.M. album which I also cannot remember. Damn that stuff I took, which I cannot remember taking. And damn disco, which nobody ever seems to forget.
Yep.
When a problem comes along...
Sorry, but Jones and Bonham top them all (but all 3 sets are great in their own wayfor example, Go Your Own Way is a great song primarily because of McVie and Fleetwood, rather than guitar and vocals). It to each his own.
Lately, you could mistake Lindsey for Larry from the Three Stooges.
Bought one album back in the 60’s ...Kiln House ...It was OK ...Never bought another despite the radiowaves being flooded with their stuff in the 70’s ...Never got FM ...Absolutely nothing there that does anything for me ...OK - the chicks were kinda hot for a time ...^_^ Vastly overrated IMHO .
Good comparison. Post-Gabriel Genesis was OK but not amazing as with PG.
No more “making loving fun” with Christine? Gee, too bad.
Im sick of these legendary bands still going on tour with replacements that never had anything to with the band. But Buckingham did leave the band for a while in the late 80’s and they toured with replacements. It didnt work out so well.
The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, The Stones, etc. Its time to hang it up. They look and sound tired.
He wasn’t fired. He recused himself.
