Hi all, just a follow-up on a post I made here about 3 weeks regarding a MRI I had attempted and bailed/panic buttoned on.
Well, without issue, I ended up doing the MRI in the open type machine this past Easter morning to try to find out why I've been experiencing bad headaches for the last 2-3 weeks. I get into work the next morning(Monday) and my Dr calls me with the results and tells me to go to the emergency room. "I say, when?" He says, "now!"
Turns out I have a partial tear in my right neck artery...better known as Right Carotid Artery Dissection. I asked the radiologist how I got the tear but she really couldn't tell me. Me, I think I got in during one of my many violent coughing fits which was one of the reasons for the MRI in the first place.
I am now on a 6-wk daily Aspirin regimen before I have to go back for a follow-up MRI in the hopes it has healed itself.
I am feeling a lot better 6 days later today.
Anyone else experience this and/or know anyone who has?

I usually get about 2.5 refills of the Punch there — trying to avoid the soda from time-to-time.
But, MUST have chicken tenders on the side with Chik-fil-A wing sauce. Yummmmmm.
There may still be a 3 a.m. Taco Bell near ya unless you’re on the East Coast.
Praise God that they could find the problem and had a treatment for it! Thank you for the follow-up; it may be of help to someone else.

I am surprised that they didn't want to do surgery to fix it.
With a dissecting Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm, there is pain and the patient rarely makes it to the hospital in time for surgery. My Dad had to have surgery to prevent dissection. So I don't know about the danger and time frame for the carotid artery.
Now if you said you had a clogged artery, the aspirin while you wait to get the surgery might make sense. Aspirin is an anticoagulant.
So if the blood vessel is developing a tear, your blood will be less likely to clot, but continue to bleed?
As I said, I find this diagnosis and treatment to be confusing.
The coughing has subsided as I’m on Amoxicillin (sp?) now......was an infection.

This last flu season brought with it a nasty persistent cough that would go on for weeks. As I get older, I dread what next year’s flu season will bring. Seems the bugs are increasingly building up resistance to most medical treatments.
I once (in my early 20's) had an accident with a firearm. I was standing on a riverbank while holding a pistol. The riverbank collapsed from under my feet. When I landed, my elbow struck the ground causing the loaded pistol with a hair trigger to discharge. I don't know how close I came to shooting myself in the head, but it must have been really, really close with the muzzle right next to my ear. I was confused at first and then overjoyed when I realized I was still alive.
I'm assuming that my eardrum burst (no blood, though) as I went totally deaf in that ear. I was extremely embarrassed about the whole thing and didn't tell anyone that I was now deaf in one ear. Much to my surprise, my hearing started to return a few weeks later. It was distorted at first, but returned to normal eventually.
I’m on an antibiotic, too. There was a slight infection. However, since last November no infection and x-rays clear. This time eventually they got infected.
Dear Sweet Kevin, please have this fixed. I lost my sister, my best friend at age 60 from this horrible anurism. May God help and Heal you. L. Sibley
I had a dissection in my right carotid more than 25 years ago when living in Michigan. Happened when I did a header playing indoor soccer. Several days after the incident I began to experience various, progressive symptoms. First the headaches. Then losing the sense of taste. Finally, was at work one day and a co-worker looked at my pupils and said you have to go to the hospital. My right pupil had pretty much shut down.
Went to the hospital, they took one look at me, admitted me and did the MRI thing. I think they were all closed back then. Spent two days in the stroke ward and was then on Coumadin for the next six or twelve months. 25 years later, all is well.

Glad to read you’re improving after getting a diagnosis from the successful MRI. I had an MRI in 2006 that resulted in an immediate trip to a neurologist for a tumor at C1/C2. Removal proved it to be benign and symptoms went away.

There is a lot wrong with our health care (mostly cost) but it is great to live in a country where cat scans and MRIs can be ordered up quickly and results found quickly.

Son in law had same thing. It healed on it’s own. Good luck.
US inhalers no longer work as well thanks to environmental regulations. Our son’s asthma was terrible this winter-affected his wrestling season. Another wrestling mom noticed how much he struggled and offered to get him some inhalers while in Mexico. They made a difference as the propellant is better. No prescription needed. She brought him a bag of 10 for a cost of $20.
eat some sauerkraut and minced garlic for the infection.
2 spoonfuls 3 times a day for at least 3 days

Pray you are better Kevin. How old are you? Those carotids get less flexible and clogged with age. Take care of yourself, we need good freepers.
