Lock-step off-kilter
West Hawaii Today ^ | March 30 , 2018 | Dennis Brown

Posted on 03/30/2018 1:55:21 PM PDT by LeoWindhorse

I read with sadness Ms. Field’s letter (West Hawaii Today, March 28, 2018) referring to the young people who marched for sensible gun laws as “marching in lock-step in group-think about control…” I am 76 years old and my wife is nearly 70; we marched with pride last weekend with the young people. I think marching in lock-step is a good phrase to describe Ms. Field as she parrots the old, tired mantra of the National Rifle Association. She states that “if law-abiding citizens were stripped of guns, who would still have them.” Absolutely no one at the rally was advocating “stripping anyone of their guns.” If she had attended the march she would have known this.

We have far more mass shootings than any developed country in the world. Australia and Great Britain have radically restricted gun ownership and seen the incidence of gun violence drop dramatically. Japan restricts gun ownership even more stringently and even their criminals don’t often carry guns because of the heavy penalties if they are caught using a gun in the commission of a crime.

Misguided marchers

Marching lock-step in group-think about gun control does little or nothing. There is a good reason the Bill of Rights allows us to bear arms: to defend ourselves and our families against attack, domestic or foreign.

Think about it. If law-abiding citizens were stripped of guns, who would still have them? The military. The law. The criminals. Do you really want to be defenseless? How has this worked out elsewhere throughout history?

Furthermore, without guns, any evil or deranged person would still have numerous options for violence against you. So should all possible ingredients for bomb-building be banned? How about vehicles, since they can suddenly be turned against crowds? How about knives? And on and on.

The problem is not the inanimate objects, but people with misguided intent inclined to pull those triggers or use other weapons. Can’t we turn our collective attention and energy to finally finding compassionate and effective answers for those who are mentally ill? A start would be much stricter background checks for potentially dangerous people. Also, placing armed guards in schools would be the most effective deterrent to preventing tragedies like the recent school shooting.

Well said.

What they don’t tell you: In Australia crimes against seniors have skyrocketed since the gun ban.

One thing that is continually ignored is just how moderate ths NRA actually is.

From my perspective, NRA members, as well as the possibly hundreds of thousands of non-members who value our rights, are much more steadfast in their position on gun rights issues than the NRA.

It is not the NRA support that Congressmen and Senators need.

It is the support of the millions of civil rights enthusiasts.

The NRA could support confiscation, tomorrow, but civil rights enthusiasts would still repudiate those positions.

So many lies so little time. Anyone care to look at population in total? Want to compare homogeneous culture versus our diverse cultures? Land mass? Urban versus rural? Rise of other crimes after bans have gone into effect? Rise of crime crime after gun bans. Murders and deaths with causes other than guns?
Sigh. Nope. Just guns go bang and scare me, therefore: infringe the living crap out of everyone’s right to defend themselves.

History teaches us that the only thing that stands between the private citizen and tyranny is a weapon in his or her hands.

I attended the one on the Hilo side. Just walked among them, like Socrates, asking
questions. My findings:

1) 99% haolie 50s-70s from Puna
2) one sign: No 2nd Amendment - another (a friend) said it is time to start full
confiscation)
3) no students, no one wanting to talk specifically about safety for schools

I had wanted to discuss the feasibility of volunteers in each school community working
out a plan to secure the perimeter of a school by being eyes & ears

“incidence of gun violence drop dramatically”. Why specify ONLY violence while using guns? Those places saw an uptick in total violent crimes. Meanwhile, here in the US, states that have changed their laws to permit concealed carry find all violent crime plummets.

Here’s the next step in this lunacy, with the slogan”save a life, surrender your knife”: http://surrenderyourknife.co.uk/

This idiot needs to read the article by Larry Elder that was posted here yesterday.....not stats about Great Britain or Australia which are boring - but stats about the murder rate in THE UNITED STATES and deaths by other means - NOT GUNS!!!

http://www.jewishworldreview.com/cols/elder032918.php3

It’s like arguing with friends or relatives who refuse to give up their stale and outdated arguments...I don’t care how old this writer is - I’m much older and I wouldn’t attend one of those phony marches or protests. I prefer to use my own “noodle” and think things through for myself - not follow some snot nosed pukes over the cliff...

I wondered about the older people that were attending the DC rally - now I know why they were there! “Gee - sounds good to me - let’s go.” Same people who voted for Hillary and would again!

“”Time after time, persons in the military have advocated banning these weapons because they have virtually no responsible civilian use. This has been echoed by many NRA members who are hunters – again, a simple online search will provide ample factual evidence. The vast majority of the population in repeated polling is in favor of restrictions on assault weapons.””

Persons in the military? Who for instance?

The vast majority of the population (even if true) doesn’t know what an assault weapon is. He talks about “online searches.” How about “man on the street” questions where people who are in favor of banning “assault weapons” can’t answer the simple question of what an assault weapon is.

This guy is beyond stupid!! How does anyone that dumb manage to reach old age? Calling a “scary looking rifle” an assault weapon doesn’t make it an assault weapon, you dummy! Assault weapons were never banned - just some cosmetic gee-gaws were changed and that made the progressives happy UNTIL ~~~~~~~~~~~~THEY’RE BAACCCKKK!!

You broke the code:

“if they are caught using a gun in the commission of a crime.”

I think you exposed it: they are not concerned with school safety.

This is all just an opportunity to advance their goal of total civilian firearm confiscation.
