The Mohave Valley Community Park Egg Drop in Arizona was supposed to be cute and endearing: a family Easter egg hunt capped off with candy raining from the sky for kids to collect. Instead, it turned into a genuine health scare, and not just because too many Peeps can make a kid constipated.
No, it was because the candy was found to be potentially laced with herbicides. How did this happen, you ask? The low-flying plane used to drop the candy is regularly a crop duster, meaning that all of those literal plant-killing toxins were also covering the supposedly edible candy.
"Anyone who touched the eggs should wash their hands thoroughly and [...] remove and wash your clothing," Mohave County Department of Public Health said in a statement. "If you have come in contact with the eggs or candy and experience, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, excessive sweating or urination you should seek medical assistance immediately."
Luckily, there haven't been any reports of illness directly related to this egregious mistake as of now. With that said, the fact that someone ever thought that repurposing a crop duster as an Easter egg-mobile is seriously concerning.
Imagine if your sweet, innocent 5-year-old got sick after eating a Reese's peanut butter egg because their hands were coated in Glyphosate from the wrapper. I can't think of anything more difficult for a parent than explaining to little Timmy how the Easter bunny didn't mean to poison him.
Pro tip: if you think it's a good idea to use a crop duster for your Easter egg hunt, please reconsider.

FOR CRYING OUT LOUD. This is my County, it happened in my city and NOTHING HAPPENED. The crop duster was completely cleaned, the candy was in a plastic egg. Our of 30,000 pieces of candy only 2000 came from that plane. There have been no symptoms, no complaints.. THIS IS A TOTAL STORY ABOUT NOTHING.
At least it wasn’t turkeys.
This is a really nice event and I have a feeling someone is trying to sabotage it.
Are they trying to scare people or what? I haven’t seen this story anywhere else.
Of course our Public Health Dept. is having the candy tested. There wasn’t even any left. Again, this is a story about nothing.
I live in a very complicated town. But I love it. I am the County Supervisor so I know what I am talking about with this story. There is no “THERE” there. But I guess the idea of children and possible poison, even with no evidence whatsoever, is sexy enough for some national organization to pick it up.
Not surprised. Which hysterical mommy started the panic. maybe will come out.
“As God is my witness, I believed that turkeys could fly.”
“There have been no symptoms, no complaints.”
But, but - the plane is used to spray scary sounding CHEMICALS!
See!! This is why we don’t have nice things...as my granma Anna rosanna danna used to say “it’s always something!” either your easter candy is laced with weed be gone or ...
Glad to hear all is well. Typical media..
Either slow news day - or MSM is diverting attention from something else
Or! Better living through chemistry...?....I joke because a Freeper from the area stated that was a lot to do about nothing.
For Easter? Wouldn’t. bunnies be more appropriate?
Of course our Public Health Dept. is having the candy tested. There wasnt even any left.
Well, of course theres no candy left after the Health Dept eats, I mean, tests the candy!
THIS IS A TOTAL STORY ABOUT NOTHING.
