Animal rights activists were in for a grisly surprise over the weekend when protesters in front of a popular Toronto restaurant were treated to a live demonstration on how to properly butcher the hind quarter of a deer.

Chef Michael Hunter is co-owner of Antler, a restaurant that serves "local seasonal and wild foods" that are native to Canada, "such as bison, boar, rabbit, duck and deer." When vegan protesters returned to his restaurant for the fourth time in recent days with signs bearing messages like "animals are not ours to use," "killing and eating animals is horrifying" and "MURDER," Hunter decided to conduct a little protest of his own.

Hmm...he could have printed up a big poster of an aborted baby saying “Human babies are animals, too.” and put it in his window.

You know dog eating is not the thing I would want to do. Here in the West it is not culturally acceptable. But in those countries that wish to partake. Enjoy, I suppose. If they regards dogs as a food commodity, then why should they listen to me?

If it were a disaster situation then I suppose I would be force to eat things that I normally would not do, like cow’s liver and brussel sprouts....

I watched Andrew Zimmern eat the most unconventional things from food customs handed down through the generations. There are things being eaten right in the United States that if you saw them, you would be repulsed. However, Zimmern would dive right into them and rave about how delicious they were. Take Eskimo ice cream. The version I saw used seal fat, dried salmon eggs, and blueberries. MMmmmm. Variety is the spice of life.
