I KNOW I shouldnt think about it, Ill scare myself to death but after seventeen hours in the air, I cant get the worst case scenario out of my head.
No, not a plane crash. I am convinced that I am breathing more farts than air.
Im on Qantas inaugural Perth to London flight, the longest to and from the UK, and the atmosphere in the pressurised tube Ive been sharing with over 200 other bodies has gotten quite stale.

A couple of years back we did Dallas to Brisbane, Australia. In excess of 16 hours. Loooonnnngggggg.
Moline to StLouis to LA.
Then 13 hours to Sydney and deplaned for the last 6 to Perth.
And I had a nasty cold at the time.
Most amazing thing: For the LA-Sydney leg we had the two seats Aisle and middle. A navigator for another airline had the window seat and was deadheading into somewhere else. Maybe Thailand? On the 13 hour flight we both got up several times to walk around and relieve ourselves. That navigator NEVER left his seat!
Question, is there 17 hours of oxygen contained within the pressurized fuselage tube holding 200 passengers?
If not is there supplemental oxygen added during flight?
That's the one. Mine is a framed, full color, illustrated version that my dad saved. It's a cool piece of memorabilia.
Immodium before the trip. That’s what I do on extended fishing trips.
Graf Zeppelin took just about 80 hours from Tokyo to San Francisco.

Non-stop???!!
Yup.
Yup.
Surprised nobody has mentioned Amtrak. West Palm to Croton NY took somewhere around 24 hours. Ventilation not a problem except in the middle of winter when there was too much of it.
Lots of air leaks from the doors & couplings between cars.
Bathrooms full to overflowing by the halfway point.
Its just air compressed from outside.
I’m not sure about that. Unless you are flying business class, that is. If you are flying coach, even Qantas, you are reclining slightly at best and it is mind-numbingly boring. I think I prefer the direct flight but it is painful.
Ya had me at farts
American English tends to use the simple past more often
Air is continuously “bled” from the engines. The Engines compress the air and it is put into the cabin and eliminated out from the back. The entire air is replaced every 10 to 15 minutes in continuous circulation.
it would have to refuel.
What is the name of that painting?
This was painted by Montague Dawson and is titled, Old Timer in Rough Seas. Concur, I used to fly from the East Coast to Qatar and Kuwait. The direct flights were murder. Whenever possible, I would connect through Europe so that I could walk around for a bit. Worth every minute of extra travel time.
