Interesting. Spies without a country and without a parent organization.
The Soviet Union disappeared in 1991 and the KGB was dismantled after its demise.
I assume Russia had a spy operation continuously? Not sure of course. I think ion the show Reagan is just in his second term. They had news announcements from the 80s and sometimes the FBI or the spies refer to real events.
I stopped watching when it became obvious that they hadn’t anticipated a story arc through multiple seasons.
I watch for escapism and my expectations are not so high. I am pleased wth the show and continue to be so. Best wishes.
Kind Of OT: Why would ANY spies who happen to live in the U.S., instead of living in communistic countries, or third world countries, or within any kind of dictatorship country not want to live in the U.S., instead? The U.S. is a much better country, overall, compared to the rest of the world, in most things! Just ask the decades of illegal immigrants AND legal immigrants who continue to want to come into the U.S. to live and, in some cases, work! Worldwide Anti-Americanism=Jealousy For Not Fully Emulating The U.S. To The Best Of Abilities!
When I lived in Canada during the seventies, we were friends with some immigrants from communist Hungary. Some of THEIR friends immigrated to Canada, then went right back to Hungary.
They said living with the prospect of becoming unemployed, homeless, and impoverished was so strong that they preferred living under communism where you were guaranteed a job and housing.
That's roughly what I've been thinking. Elizabeth and Paige are definitely the hard-core Soviets.
This has been a great series... sorry to see it end. I'm amazed I haven't seen more discussion on FR about 'The Americans' over the years. Overall it has seemed very pro-Reagan, pro-freedom to me.
It should be around 1989 for them....at this point.

Yeah, I stopped somewhere in the 3rd season...It kind of lost it’s novelty seeing we had real live communists in the white house at the time.

I still remember the scene where she (in a blond wig) picked up a State Department or White House dude in a bar, took him back to a hotel room and, well...let’s just say there was below-the-waist action not visible to the camera.
Was that the first episode?

I think they both love their kids. It’s clear the kinds are better off in the states. With all the infighting behind them in russia, it would be harder and harder to go back into that situation.
If some on win Russia orders them killed or prematurely back home, that could turn them into Americans.
