Once upon a time, in most of US history long beards were common in the US Armed Forces. Along came World War I and chemical warfare. Beards were and have been essentially forbidden since, in order to ensure an airtight seal between the mask and the lower edge of the face.

No one told soldiers that they would try to design a gas mask to accommodate beards. Men were simply ordered TO SHAVE THEIR BEARDS!!!

Is it too much to ask these combat chicks TO CUT THEIR HAIR????
