According to a new study, subscriptions to streaming TV services exploded by 450 percent in less than a decade. This has resulted in surge of cord-cutting, those who cancel their cable or satellite packages (pay TV). The result is that pay TV household penetration has collapsed from a years-long hold of 75 percent, to just 63 percent in 2017.
In 2009, only 10 percent of homes subscribed to a streaming TV service (Amazon, Netflix, Hulu, etc.). By 2017, that number surged to 55 percent, or a 450 percent increase.

It’s just the wife ( Japanese ) and I and she has no interest in TV .
Sasebo is in my neck of the woods , kinda ...I’m in Kumamoto . I am looking at mountains in Nagasaki Pref. out of my front window now .
Oh, okay. Cool. We watch politics and want to see whats happening on the cable channels and I wondered if that even comes with alternative tv programming choice...
I love those classics. also. What a wonderful contrast from todays wretched viewing and movies.
What's the rush? Thanks EdnaMode.
Plenty of great podcasters on Youtube and elsewhere on the net so no need for cable channels . Cut the cable ...^_^
Spent three years in Sasebo in the early 80s. My wife was a bus tour guide and so she and I would get in the car and see the fabulous places in Kyushu - Nagasaki, Unzen, Beppu, and Karatsu.
You’re a lucky man. Japan is a wonderful country.
If cable companies were smart they would allow us to buy and pay for the channels WE want... and I don't mean 'bundled crap' - like making us buy CNN if we just want FOX.
Control freak liberals run these companies - and they're running them right into the ground.
Because of limited choice, i.e. cable monopolies in local markets, cable companies never had to adapt to the market’s changing needs and demands. People anted choice in content and pricing 20 years ago yet cable companies kept piling on worthless content and kept raising prices. Soon cable companies will only be internet access providers - until we get localized WIFI access - then cable will be a fraction of the revenue they once had.
