Ad blocker on your router is the best way. Pi-hole installed on a raspberry pi is the best way and very cheap.

Router blocker is a good idea.
Or go a bit beyond ad blocking and go to Safari ‘JS Blocker’ that blocks all scripts. Requires a little more learning.

Ad Block Plus works great here.
just click on the (somewhat disguised) link once its installed to TURN OFF its “acceptable ads” ...so it blocks ALL ads)
you may OCCASIONALLY find a website that objects to your uwing an adblocker. i just click to an alternate website when that happens

Add uBlock. Use both and it will eliminate most things. Only problem is that on a very few sites you will have to turn them off to view a video, or sometimes, the comments. It’s a small price to pay for having major relief.
