Any bets on how old the finder was and whether or not s/he was living with mom?

I’m guessing Higher Power Outfitters is a certified bomb disposal site?
I’m trusting the fool called them first to say: “... and oh yeah. I’ll be in later with two grenades.”

Is there a “best by” date on grenades?

When I was a kid in the early 50's, I had several friends who had Fathers with cases of grenades at home. They often were used for fishing in Central Florida lakes. We once took one, pulled the pin and dropped it over into a sand quarry. While we had enough sense to make sure we didn't watch it go off, we took off running into the woods after hearing it go off and never repeated the stunt!!

Were they higher power grenades than those regularly available over the internet?

A former roomie had 40mm grenades. He was one blooker away from a party.

People brought in deceased father’s WWII footlocker with his ammo, etc to be evaluated, possibly purchased by gun store. Found two ‘pineapple’ grenades, LIVE ones in the bottom. Probably brought home at end of war.
No terrorism, nothing unusual hear, just souvenirs that didn’t get the primers and powder pulled.

If it was like the one in WV, the previous owner was a WWII vet. The family had no idea what was in the foot locker until they opened it and somehow let two WWII Japanese grenades roll down the stairs. The explosives expert at the WV fire marshal’s office took custody of them.
You learn the most interesting things in an explosives recognition class and get to blow things up legally. The best were the Claymores which the army disavowed losing. By the time they were used for show and tell the fire marshal had removed the C4.
