Looking forward to this!
Pass.
I met my wife while doing that show.
I’ll be sure to miss it!
I’ll be sure to miss it!
Rather watch “Cats”
Don’t tell me, Jesus will be played by a black guy.
Yet another parody (blasphemy) of the Word made flesh.
Well, compared to The Book of Mormon, this war horse is My Fair Lady.
Alice Cooper!
I did not grow up in a religious home and JCS is what introduced me to the Gospel. It is pretty much faithful to scripture in its lyrics (except there’s nothing in scripture to suggest Mary Magdalene was a prostitute.) I will always have a soft spot for this production.
Entertainment or heresy?
Personally I’m not a fan of JCSS (though I admit some of the songs are very good). My taste runs more to Godspell.

After Jesus is whipped, the music immediately (and significantly) shifts into the Superstar theme. This is a way of saying that the martyrdom has begun, and Jesus has won His fame. This idea is stressed in Judass final song, in which he mentions both Buddha and Mohammed but says that Jesus has more appeal because of how He died. The opera ends with Jesus crucifixion. There is no resurrection.
To summarize the theme of Jesus Christ Superstar, Jesus was not divine but was a fascinating and magnetic man of good intentions who let things get out of control. Overwhelmed by His own fame, He desired to return to a simpler, more sincere life, but He couldnt. Of the disciples, only Judas recognized what was happening. He hated what Jesus had become but still loved Him and wanted to help Him. Jesus saw only one way out of His predicament: to die as a martyr; then, perhaps, some of His good teaching might be remembered.
Of course, this is not biblical. Jesus is more than just a man; He is the Son of God (John 10:30).
A FAR FAR FAR better set of music, lyrically and musically.....

One of my senior sergeants gave me the nickname "The Radical" after seeing one of the performances.
Years later, I pulled out the poster and looked at it real hard. Something wasn't right. It took me a bit to realize that it was not a copy of an old painting, because whomever did the poster took an old portrait of the Sacred Heart and moved his hand over the heart covering it all up. Any picture of the Sacred Heart is done to purposely expose His heart. So, somebody had pulled a fast one.
I threw that poster out.
Alice Cooper as Herod? John Legend as Jesus? No thanks.
Um......this is NOT appropriate for Easter.
